Spec. Nursing Informatics

Summary Job Summary Responsible for providing direct input into the development, design, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of existing and future clinical information systems. Collaborates with Nursing, Providers, Ancillary Departments, Quality Management, Information Technology, and vendors to optimize the delivery of patient care, enhance patient safety, and improve workflow efficiency. Maintains a broad knowledge of new technologies, industry standards related to nursing documentation, data privacy and security. Integrates information science, knowledge, and data in nursing practice to improve information management and communication in healthcare. Responsible for enhancing the nursing and clinical teams’ use of technology and analytics to improve the health of populations, communities, and families across the continuum of care while facilitating innovative solutions to implement evidence-based practices and improving documentation. Serves as a resource and subject matter expert for clinical leaders/nursing staff members on issues related to healthcare technology and informatics. Skills 1. Strong understanding of computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 2. Ability to be self-directed with excellent organizational, interpersonal skills and communication skills. 3. Possess strong skills in project management, process redesign, written/verbal communication, physician relations and customer satisfaction. 4. Strong knowledge of nursing workflow, practice standards and clinical documentation requirements required. 5. Knowledge of population health and global healthcare technologies desirable. 6. Experience with information presentation/education to support safe patient care. 7. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 8. Strong process flow knowledge. 9. Working knowledge and understanding of The Joint Commission, the Texas Nurse Practice Act and other regulatory agency requirements. 10. Understands workflows within the acute care setting and the importance of technology to improve patient care 11. Demonstrated skills in troubleshooting, analytical, strategic and critical thinking, negotiation and relationship building. 12. Must be self-motivated and goal oriented. 13. Decisive, flexible, results oriented problem solver with the ability and desire to achieve goals quickly. 14. Proven leadership abilities with a comprehensive knowledge of healthcare information systems and understanding of clinical applications from a user perspective. 15. Proactive in bringing issues forward, building consensus and delivering practical solutions. 16. Excellent verbal and written communication/presentation skills. Ability to present to senior management, physicians and all levels of staff. 17. Track record of mentoring and developing staff. 18. Capacity to utilize evidence based practice tools to facilitate the best practice at bedside. 19. Ability to read and comprehend English at a level necessary to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions. 20. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. Work Experience Three years of experience as a clinical Registered Nurse in an acute care hospital setting is required. One year of clinical informatics nursing experience is highly preferred. License/Registration/Certification Current and active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas. Nursing Informatics Certification preferred. Education Bachelor degree in Nursing required. Master degree in Nursing, Information Systems, Nursing Informatics or currently attending a graduate program preferred.
