Job Description Job Description Automotive Mechanic / Used Car Dealership Technician Calk Motors is a growing used car dealership looking for a capable, self-sufficient mechanic to help inspect, diagnose, and repair dealership vehicles. We are a small, fast-moving dealership with a wide variety of vehicles coming in from auctions, trades, and wholesale sources. This is not a large corporate shop with a service writer, dispatcher, parts department, and lead tech standing over you all day. The right person needs to be comfortable working independently, making smart decisions, and keeping vehicles moving. We sell a mix of trucks, diesels, SUVs, European vehicles, domestic vehicles, and higher-mileage used vehicles with unknown histories. Some vehicles need basic safety repairs or maintenance. Others may need timing chains, drivability diagnosis, cooling system repairs, suspension work, A/C diagnosis, electrical troubleshooting, engine-related repairs, or multiple issues sorted out before they are ready to sell. The goal is simple: help get vehicles safe, functional, retail-ready, and ready to sell. Responsibilities Inspect newly purchased vehicles and identify needed repairs Diagnose warning lights, drivability issues, electrical issues, A/C issues, suspension issues, and general mechanical problems Perform used car repairs including brakes, suspension, batteries, starters, alternators, leaks, sensors, cooling system repairs, timing chains, and general maintenance Help prioritize which vehicles and repairs should be handled first Communicate clearly about what was completed, what parts are needed, what still needs diagnosis, and what vehicles are ready Work independently without needing constant supervision What We’re Looking For Automotive repair experience Own basic mechanic tools preferred Specialty tools, diagnostic equipment, and job-specific tools can be provided as needed Comfortable using diagnostic scan tools Comfortable working on a wide variety of vehicles Able to work independently most of the day Honest about what you can and cannot do Practical, reliable, and able to keep vehicles moving Comfortable with both basic recon and more involved mechanical repairs Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation Preferred Experience Used car dealership or auction vehicle experience Diesel truck experience European vehicle experience Timing chains or engine-related repairs Electrical diagnosis A/C diagnosis and repair Suspension, steering, and drivability diagnosis This Job Is a Good Fit If You: Like variety and do not want to work on the same cars every day Can figure things out without someone standing over you Know how to balance quality, speed, safety, and common sense Can communicate clearly when a vehicle is done, waiting on parts, or needs more diagnosis Understand that dealership work is about getting vehicles safe, functional, retail-ready, and sold This Job Is Not a Good Fit If You: Need constant supervision Only want to work on one brand Only want to do oil changes, batteries, and brake pads Do not like diagnosing unknown problems Get stuck on one vehicle all day without updating anyone Cannot clearly communicate what you found or what you need Pay Pay depends on experience, ability, productivity, and the structure that makes sense for both sides. Open to discussing hourly, flat-rate, part-time, full-time, contract, performance-based bonuses, or other creative arrangements depending on the applicant and skill level. For the right person, this position can grow beyond basic mechanic work.
