Service Line Director Hematology Oncology/Infusion

Full Time Days, variable 40 hours/week Summary: The Service Line Director, Hematology-Oncology/Infusion is responsible for advancing Akron Children's as a leader in the delivery of integrated care across the hematology/oncology service line continuum, including patient care operations and provider administrative management. This role supports the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care and achievement of a regionally and nationally recognized comprehensive hematology/oncology program. This position develops and translates strategy into action for service line programming that spans the full continuum of care (community outreach, outpatient diagnostics and infusion services, inpatient acute care, specialty programs including oncology sub-specialties, survivorship, and advanced therapies). The role operates within a highly matrixed structure across a complex health system to ensure alignment of clinical operations, business development, and financial performance. The Service Line Director focuses on access, care design and standardization, patient experience, and outcomes, while developing and maintaining strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. Oversight includes strategic business planning, clinical program development, research alignment, provider partnerships, financial stewardship, operational performance, and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities: 1. In collaboration with service line clinical leadership, develops and executes service line strategy, aligning hematology/oncology priorities with organizational goals, market needs, advancements in oncology care, and emerging therapies. 2. Leads strategic and financial planning, including business case development, pro formas, and budget management to ensure sustainable growth and strong financial performance. 3. Partners with provider and clinical leadership to advance clinical programs, quality outcomes, and research integration. 4. Drives program development and expansion, including infusion services, outpatient sites, regional outreach, and access strategies across the care continuum. 5. Ensures operational excellence across inpatient and outpatient settings with a focus on access, care standardization, patient safety, quality, and patient/family experience. 6. Leads quality improvement and value-based initiatives, promoting a culture of continuous improvement through Lean Six Sigma and evidence-based oncology practices. 7. Builds and sustains strategic relationships with regional partners, referral networks, academic affiliates, and community organizations to strengthen program reach and reputation. 8. Represents the service line internally and externally, including participation in local, regional, and national oncology forums and collaborations. 9. Provides leadership and talent management, including coaching, development, and performance management of team members to achieve service line goals. 10. Serves as a key member of leadership, contributing to enterprise initiatives, service line integration, and organizational strategy execution. Other information: Technical Expertise Demonstrated leadership within a large, complex healthcare system, with direct experience in hematology/oncology service line operations, program development, and strategic growth strongly preferred. Proven ability to design, build, and scale multidisciplinary oncology programs across the continuum (e.g., inpatient care, outpatient infusion, subspecialty clinics). Advanced expertise in financial and business operations, including budget management, performance analytics, and driving sustainable growth in a high-cost, high-acuity service line. Knowledge of oncology regulatory, accreditation, and quality standards (e.g., CoC, FACT, CMS, TJC), with experience leading quality, safety, and value-based improvement initiatives. Strong track record in provider partnership, academic collaboration, and research integration, with the ability to lead through influence in a highly matrixed environment. Expertise in operational excellence and performance improvement, including Lean/Six Sigma methodologies, access optimization, care standardization, and patient experience improvement across diverse care settings. Education and Experience 1. Education: Master's degree required, Master's degree in nursing preferred. Master's degree in health care leadership (MBA or MHA) is preferred. 2. Licensed to practice professional nursing in the state of Ohio is required if applicant is a registered nurse 3. Certification: Fellow in American College of Health Care Executives and/or board certification as a Nurse Executive-Advanced is preferred. 4.
