Position Summary: The Paralegal is responsible for providing support to the corporate Legal Department and risk management function. This position shall report directly to the Chief Legal Officer. Duties will include intake, opening, and closing files for a diverse range of claim matters, contract reviews, document management, legal research, claims support, drafting correspondence and legal documentation, monitoring external counsel billing and budgeting, fact-gathering, preparing insurance applications, and tracking and reporting on all Legal Department and risk management function activities. This position requires the ability to accomplish assigned tasks with minimal supervision while demonstrating the ability to issue spot and exercise good judgment and discretion. Responsibilities: Comply with (and actively promote) all Safety policies and procedures, including reporting all accidents, incidents, and near-misses to ensure adherence to our Number One Core Value – Safety first, in everything we do. Assist in managing the corporate claims program from notification to closure by intaking claims, providing pre-litigation and litigation support, conducting legal research, managing documents, investigating claims, notifying appropriate insurers, preparing correspondence and motions, drafting, and generally maintaining claim files. Assist with certain collection, employment, liability, and workers' compensation claim efforts. Assist in managing the corporate contract administration program by drafting and reviewing contracts, correspondence, and other documents. Assist in managing the corporate insurance program by maintaining files, preparing applications, supporting documents for renewals, and maintaining the certificate of insurance (COI) request process. Assist in tracking and reporting on all claims, contract administration, and insurance activities. Perform legal (and other) research as needed to support ongoing corporate legal and risk management activities. Assist in the development of claims, contract administration, insurance, and risk management training. Provides departmental general administrative support. Performs additional assignments as required by the Company's needs or otherwise directed. Qualifications: Paralegal certification or associate degree in paralegal studies (bachelor’s degree is preferred). 2 years of paralegal experience. Prior experience in construction operations, construction law, contract review, litigation support, or investigating and managing claims is strongly preferred but not required. Demonstrated ability to deliver clear, concise, and focused communication and legal and analytical memoranda. Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Teams and SharePoint experience a plus). Necessary Attributes: Excellent verbal and written communications skill. Self-motivated. Superb attention to detail, as well as organizational and multitasking skills. Ability to accomplish assigned tasks with minimal supervision, set appropriate priorities, and deliver efficient results within identified timelines.
