IT Project Manager
Job Title: IT Project Manager – University IT (UIT) Position Type: Full-time, contract/temporary (1 year) Location: Stanford Redwood City, CA campus (Hybrid – at least 2 days/week onsite) Sponsorship: Not available Organization Overview Stanford University is a premier academic and research institution, committed to excellence and improving the world. Position Summary Reports to the UIT Project Management Office (PMO). Works in multidisciplinary project teams to deliver University-wide technology projects, including enterprise application implementations, system integrations, collaboration/content management tools, cloud services, data analytics/reporting, research computing, and information security/privacy projects. Responsible for managing multiple large and complex technical projects, ensuring high-quality outcomes, adherence to best practices, and continuous improvement. Balances stakeholder interests, exercises independent judgment, and makes project-level decisions. Focus is 80% project leadership / 20% technical contribution. Key Responsibilities Manage multiple concurrent projects, including vendor selection, SaaS implementations, software development, IT infrastructure projects, and application upgrades. Drive projects to timely delivery within budget, while managing risks and issues effectively. Lead and motivate cross-functional teams, including internal and external staff. Communicate effectively with sponsors, stakeholders, and team members. Align technical solutions with business objectives. Perform other duties as assigned. QualificationsEducation & Experience Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus 8–10 years of related project management experience with large/complex projects, including planning, scheduling, tracking, and budgeting. Alternatively, equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Highly effective written and oral communication. Sufficient technical/domain knowledge to deliver projects successfully. Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Experience with Agile, Waterfall, and Hybrid project management methodologies. Knowledge of project management tools and SDLC processes. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Experience developing and maintaining complex project plans with proper work breakdown structures (WBS). Expertise in people, change, risk, and conflict management. Ability to motivate teams to achieve results in consensus-driven environments. Leadership, negotiation, persuasion, and facilitation skills. Ability to navigate stressful situations and make decisions on complex problems. Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Visio), Smartsheet, ServiceNow PPM, Zoom, and Slack. Familiarity with Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle HCM, PeopleSoft Student and HR Administration. Knowledge of IT infrastructure, application/system integrations, QA/testing practices, and data integration. Understanding of web application architecture, system architecture, application integration, and object-oriented languages.
