Pediatric Cardiovascular Perfusion Specialist PRN (SAN ANTONIO)

POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES Under physician supervision, responsible for assisting with the selection and assembly of various modes of extracorporeal support of both pediatric and adult patients undergoing congenital, acquired, and traumatic lesions requiring surgical correction. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Graduation from an accredited School of Perfusion with a bachelor’s degree in a recognized field of science or learning directly related to the duties of the position is required. Pediatric interest required and experience preferred. New grads must have a provisional license contingent on passing the ABCP exam. Must test and pass the exam within 12 months of hire to be qualified for CCP credentials. Fundamental knowledge and skills with perfusion/surgical equipment; strong anatomical and surgical technology knowledge and excellent dexterity in the use of required equipment. The ability to remain calm in emergency situations and throughout long procedures. Strong focus on clinical quality and delivery of the best results for patients. The ability to collaborate and gain cooperation in a team-oriented environment. Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Recognizes and resolves variances and abnormal situations that may arise. LICENSURE The American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion is certified or certificate eligible. Perfusion licensure by the Texas Medical Board or meets requirements to obtain licensure. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through a course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) is required.

Renal Dialysis Educator (HONDO)

POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES Trains patients and care partners on self-care home hemodialysis (HHD) or peritoneal dialysis (PD) techniques, equipment use, infection control, and emergency procedures. Home Dialysis nurses will also conduct home visits to assess the environment and ensure safety and compliance. Home Dialysis nurses will also be required to take on call responsibilities for patient and care partner support during and after office hours, and on holidays. Performs the nursing process in a safe therapeutic manner in a designated clinical setting. Provides direct patient care (HHD/CAPD/CCPD) and monitoring of renal dialysis patients. Coordinates home dialysis activities within the frame work of the Federal Regulations, State and Local End Stage Renal Disease Network. Supports and adheres to University Health and department specific policies and standards. Receives mentoring from the Patient Care Coordinator and Director of Dialysis Services. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Registered nurse who has at least 2 years of experience as an RN, and six months experience in the specific home dialysis modality. BSN is highly preferred. Must meet career ladder Staff Nurse II criteria for specialty area worked. National Certification in Dialysis is preferred. Must have current American Heart Association, Basic Cardiac Life Support and Healthcare Provider card. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION Must be a Registered Nurse currently licensed in the state of Texas.

Clinical Laboratory Technologist (SAN ANTONIO)

POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES Performs procedures for testing or analysis on specimens submitted to the laboratory. Evaluates test results for accuracy and submits results for the purpose of aiding the physician in diagnostic and therapeutic treatment of patients. Performs analyses that may involve a complex network of steps, variable fine-line discriminations of several parameters, correction of a variety of errors, and the operation and maintenance of complicated instruments. Mentors and accounts for work of trainees and other supportive technical personnel employed by the laboratory. Performs assigned duties rapidly and accurately. Plans work activities and makes decisions connected with own work. Recognizes unusual results and/or abnormalities and takes prompt and appropriate action to assure the accuracy and validity of test result. Assumes accountability for the dissemination of patient information to ensure the confidentiality and privacy of patients. Duties may also include performance of procedures associated with procurement of specimens from patients. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Requires at least two (2) years for experience in Transfusion Services. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution OR High school graduate or equivalent AND successfully completed military training of 50 or more weeks and served as a medical laboratory specialist. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) is required OR Certification in Specialty for area of laboratory employment required without a Medical Laboratory Science (or equivalent) certification. Must maintain certification status in compliance with specifications for continuing education required by the certification agency.
