Responsibilities Analyzes all job specifications from design through packing and delivery to assure that all required information needed to calculate cost is present. Contacts sales or customers directly for additional specs or clarification to complete RFQs within the requested time frame. Reviews job specifications with department managers to ensure the most efficient production method if required. Determines the best production efficiencies that will lower cost, achieve better suitability to end use, and adds production steps necessary to achieve desired quality level. States all assumptions (such as customer-supplied art or paper) in writing as part of the estimate. Accurately enters job specs into the computer to calculate material and labor costs. Generates Proposal Letter, and saves to Sales Rep’s quote folder. Emails proposal to sales/customer as requested. Completes projects or RFQs on time, using intuitive skills to make decisions and/or takes initiatives to ensure RFQ deadlines are met. Calculates total costs for actual and proposed printing jobs, including alternate quantities and production methods as requested by sales/customers. Does not establish selling price. Contacts and provides vendors and/or outside service providers with all necessary specifications required to obtain prices. Informs sales/customer of any delivery time, price or minimum order problems with specified paper, outside services, and delivery services. Processes revisions as required at customers request. Skills and Knowledge Associate’s Degree or two to four years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and details simultaneously. Requires self-direction, tact, diplomacy, and a clear, courteous, and professional manner when dealing with internal and external customers. Strong working knowledge of Windows OS, MS Office. Demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas or findings verbally, written and report formats. Ability to manage shifting priorities on multiple projects while maintaining the quality of work. Demonstrated ability to calculate and compute numbers; analyze and solve problems on a daily basis. Mental and Physical Requirements: The Estimator must be able to perform the following job related functions: hear and speak effectively in order to communicate with customers and employees; read both handwritten and typed notes; reports and enter data into computer; bend, reach, and stretch for files that are needed to perform the job; work under conditions caused by deadlines and customer requirements; analyze and make decisions necessary to perform the job; sit for prolonged periods of time at a desk; and be able to lift 25 pounds (file boxes and computer paper).
