Senior Accountant (Queens)

Senior Accountant Finance & Accounting | Rego Park, NY | On-Site| Full-Time Reports to: Director, Accounting About the Role We are a fast-growing operator of 90 laundromat locations across 10 states in the North East and Mid-West, and we are looking for a strong, hands-on Senior Accountant to be the technical backbone of the accounting team. Working closely with the Director, Accounting, you will carry the detailed work that the monthly close, the consolidation, and the audit rest on — reconciliations, intercompany, journal entries, supporting schedules, and the analysis that explains what the numbers are doing. If you take pride in a clean reconciliation, a well-documented workpaper, and a close that lands on time, you will do well here. We believe AI will fundamentally change the finance function. The successful candidate will be an early adopter who uses AI as a force multiplier — automating repetitive accounting work, tightening the close, and raising the accuracy and speed of everything they produce. The accounting function is being reviewed for some major improvements now, which means the person in this seat will help set the standard for how the work is done in the future and will have real room to grow as the business scales. Key Responsibilities Month-End Close & Reconciliations Execute assigned close activities to set timelines Prepare balance sheet reconciliations — cash, bank, intercompany, prepaids, accruals, and fixed assets — and research and resolve reconciling items. Prepare journal entries, accruals, and adjustments in line with company policy, with complete and well-organized supporting workpapers. Maintain month-end supporting schedules and close checklists, and keep documentation audit-ready as it is produced rather than after the fact. Consolidation & Intercompany Prepare intercompany accounting, allocations, and eliminations across entities, and reconcile intercompany balances each period. Prepare consolidated financial statements and the supporting schedules behind them for the Director, Accounting to review. Maintain the accuracy and integrity of financial records across the operating entities and the 90 locations. Financial Reporting & Analysis Prepare monthly financial statements — profit and loss, balance sheet, and supporting management schedules — for review. Prepare variance analysis against budget, forecast, and prior period, and provide clear written explanations of the drivers behind the numbers. Provide accurate, timely information to FP&A and store operations leadership in support of reporting and analysis across the business. Treasury & Debt Support Maintain debt and loan schedules, and record principal and interest activity accurately and on schedule. Prepare cash reporting and reconciliations, and support cash flow forecasting, liquidity planning, and working capital analysis. Provide supporting detail for lender and investor reporting requests. Audit & Compliance Support Prepare audit schedules, supporting documentation, and reporting packages for the year-end audit, and respond to auditor requests. Support tax filings and compliance requests with clean, well-documented records. Apply company accounting policies and GAAP consistently, and flag transactions that need technical review. Accounting Operations Support Support day-to-day accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activity, including transaction coding and cash application. Review A/P and A/R detail for accuracy and completeness as part of close, and work with vendors and locations to resolve discrepancies. Support expense management, corporate card, and employee reimbursement processing with appropriate documentation. Process Improvement & Automation Identify opportunities to simplify and automate the work you touch, and implement improvements agreed with the Director, Accounting. Use AI/LLM tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, or equivalent) to speed up reconciliations, transaction coding, documentation, and routine reporting. Document procedures for the tasks you own so they are repeatable, reviewable, and transferable. Work within Sage X3 and connect data across fragmented systems (POS platforms, Excel/Google Sheets) into reliable, repeatable processes. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 4 years of progressive accounting experience, including hands-on ownership of reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close. Experience with multi-entity or multi-location accounting, including intercompany activity. Strong understanding of GAAP, financial statement preparation, and account reconciliation. Advanced proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets, and comfort working with fragmented, imperfect data across multiple source systems. Hands-on experience with an ERP system; exposure to Sage X3 and Renovo as our report writer is a plus. Comfort using AI/LLM tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, or equivalent) to accelerate accounting work, documentation, and reporting. Accurate, organized, and dependable, with strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work cleanly in a fast-paced, lean environment. Preferred CPA, or CPA candidate actively working toward licensure. Multi-unit retail, restaurant, or service operations experience. Experience preparing consolidations and supporting an external audit. Exposure to debt schedules, treasury reporting, and cash flow planning. Understanding of Python or other tools for finance automation and scripting. What Success Looks Like In 90 days: You have learned our systems, entities, and data landscape, taken over your assigned close tasks and reconciliations, and delivered them complete and on time. In 6 months: Your reconciliations, intercompany work, and supporting schedules are consistently clean and self-documenting, your variance explanations are trusted without rework, and you have automated a meaningful share of your own manual effort. In 12 months: You are the person the Director, Accounting relies on for the technical work, the audit goes smoothly on the strength of your schedules, and you have taken on more complex areas of the close. Why Join Us This is a chance to do real accounting work at a scaling, operationally complex business — multiple entities, 90 locations, and a close that matters — without the bureaucracy of a large organization. You will work directly with the Director, Accounting, the latitude to improve processes rather than inherit them, and the room to grow as the function grows. We are an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace.
