Overview: The Cardiovascular Registered Technologist is a highly trained and skilled technologist with a thorough working knowledge of cardiovascular disease, anatomy, and procedural technique. Job Description: Explain testing procedures to patients to obtain cooperation and reduce anxiety. Prepare and position patients for testing. Maintain a proper sterile field during procedures. Corrects observed or suspected breaks in sterile technique Cleaning of instruments for sterilization Utilizes universal precautions on all cases. Performs procedures safely with minimal supervision. Requests assistance when performing unfamiliar procedure, recognizes own limitations. Identifies and corrects potential hazards and safety measures to prevent injury including patient and occupational related hazards Assist cardiologist with vascular procedures, such as preparing balloons and stents. Injection of various drugs and contrast media through the catheter and is familiar with possible reactions and appropriate response to such reactions Enter patient or treatment data into computers. Recognition of pressures from various heart chambers and basic EKG abnormalities. Monitoring and documentation of procedures, conditions during procedure Calculates hemodynamic tracings. (R & L heart caths) Monitor patients' comfort and safety during tests, alerting physicians to abnormalities or changes in patient responses. Identifies and manages emergency situations. Notifies appropriate healthcare provider when an immediate clinical response is necessary based on procedural findings and patient condition Communicates effectively Maintain IV skills Activate fluoroscope and camera to produce images used to guide catheter through cardiovascular system. Check, test, and maintain cardiology equipment Practices radiation protection for both the patient and them self. Applies ALARA. Maintains accurate records of service and supplies utilized Supervise or train other cardiology technologists or students. Perform general administrative tasks, such as ordering/inventory of supplies. Duties require interaction with different age groups, i.e., neonate, child, adolescents, adults, and the elderly, and requires recognition that different age groups require specialized attention or care Works hours as needed and requested by leadership, takes rotating call. Assumes responsibility for portions of quality assurance program. Pursues ongoing continuing education Any other duties as needed to drive to the Vision, fulfill the Mission, and abide by the Values of the organization Qualifications: Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent. Licenses/Certifications (upon hire): CRT - Certified Radiologic Technologist RCIS - Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Additional Licenses and Certifications: Registered in your modality specialtywithin 1 year. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must be able to read, write and speak English. Physical Requirements: Position requires individuals to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis. Position requires prolonged standing and walking each shift. Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform
