Our pulmonary patients may be on high flow oxygen, BiPAP, or have tracheostomies or chest tubes. These patients require complex assessment, aggressive therapies and interventions, and continuous nursing vigilance. We work closely with the Stroke Coordinator to care for Acute Stroke and TIA patients. We do utilize tele-neuro services at times. Neuro patients require frequent assessments to assess for subtle changes in condition. Stroke education is provided. Physical requirements/demands: Position requires individuals to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis Position requires prolonged standing and walking each shift Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties Unit Information: OB/GYN (5B) Woman's Surgical is a 32-bed unit providing care for post-partum, mother/baby couplets and medical-surgical patients. Patients served include various GYN conditions, GYN/Oncology, Obstetrical Complications, and Mother/Baby Couplets. Our medical/ surgical population consists of various GYN surgical procedures, bariatric weight loss surgical procedures, colon resections and other minor colon surgeries, and general medical patients. Nurse to patient ratios is 1:5-6 and PCA to patient ratios 1:6-8. All staff work 12-hour shifts, 0630 to 1900 and 1830 to 0700, which includes alternating weekends and holidays.
