TRANSPORTATION LABORER (FT)

Upper Merion Township, located in King of Prussia, PA, is looking for a highly motivated Transportation Laborer who will report directly to the Transportation Supervisor. This employee is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance and repair tasks on streets, buildings, and equipment. Work involves heavy physical exertion. The employee is responsible for the proper and safe use of equipment. Employees are encouraged to learn various construction and equipment operation skills on the job. The Transportation Laborer will be responsible for (including, but not limited to): Operates hand tools (shovel; rake; pick; tamper; sledgehammer; broom, etc.) and power tools (circular saw; jackhammer; chain saw; string trimmer; lawn mower; tamper, leaf vacuum, etc.) and other miscellaneous equipment (tar pot; roadside maintainer; front end loader; dump truck; tractor; roller; snow plow; brush chipper; sweeper; safety vest; hard hat). Performs street maintenance and repair; fills potholes; prepares road base and resurfaces streets with asphalt; rebuilds curbs, manhole covers, and storm water inlets with concrete and brick; removes debris from road shoulder. Loads and unloads materials from the truck. Trims and removes trees and vegetation. Performs leaf collection and mows grass along roads and in Township parks and properties. Paints Township buildings, structures, and equipment; paints crosswalks and stop lines on street intersections. Installs and erects street signs and guardrails. Washes and services trucks with water, gas, and oil. Responds to highway emergencies and disperses sand or absorbent materials on spills. Operates street sweeper, leaf collection equipment, and roadside maintainer; and operates front-end loader, roller. Grades roads, hoists materials such as pipe, and moves materials such as dirt, stone, leaves, and refuse. Adjusts levers and depresses pedals to drive machines and control attachments. Drives and operates a dump truck to haul materials or to plow snow and spread salt. Installs plow attachment and salt spreader on dump truck. Performs snow removal and ice control, including cindering and salting. Maintains plows and spreaders. Performs concrete work and bricklaying. Maintains and cleans storm sewer inlets. Installs storm drains. Performs street sweeping and cleaning. Mows grass during the growing season in parks, playgrounds, street islands, and along Township roads. Paints and repairs equipment, such as goal posts, soccer nets, backstops, dugouts, benches, and bleachers. Replaces regulatory and street name signs. Performs related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications: High School Education or equivalent. Some experience in driving trucks is preferred. A valid PA Class B Driver’s License within 6 months.
