Vice President of Commercial, North America (United States)

Role: Vice President of Commercial, North America Location : Remote, North America (US-based preferred) Type : Full-time Market focus: United States, with wider North American growth responsibilities Travel: Regular customer, site and industry-event travel; periodic visits to the UK team Do you want to work with the 15th fastest-growing startup in Europe? If so, you’re in the right place. AssetCool is one of Europe’s fastest-growing startups, building the fastest path to more power on the grid. We’re tackling one of the most urgent challenges in the global energy transition: grid congestion. Electricity demand is rising fast; driven by electrification, AI and data centres. While traditional grid upgrades take years, demand exists today. The grid isn’t ready. AssetCool delivers robotic grid upgrades that physically increase the capacity of existing transmission lines by up to 30%, without rebuilding infrastructure. Using advanced robotics and proprietary photonic coatings, we unlock data-centre-scale capacity in weeks to months, not years and at a fraction of the cost and disruption of conventional approaches. Our technology goes beyond capacity. We reduce losses, prevent corrosion, cut corona noise and generate high-value operational data that supports smarter grid operation and maintenance. Our systems are already deployed globally, and we just raised a big funding round from leading energy and climate investors. AssetCool is one of the most innovation-driven companies in the UK energy sector and we’re scaling fast! If you’re ambitious, mission-driven and excited to work on real deployments that strengthen the industry that really matters, AssetCool is where you can make it happen. Role Overview A series of product breakthroughs is opening the next phase of our commercial expansion, and we’re deepening our North American presence to match. We’re looking for an ambitious utility sales leader who wants to play a defining role in that growth. This is a hands-on commercial leadership role reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer. You’ll personally win business while building the processes, relationships and team capability we need to scale. Your mandate is to build a repeatable North American revenue engine: develop new utility relationships, move existing opportunities forward and turn successful initial projects into larger, recurring deployment programmes. You’ll work closely with the commercial leadership team, engineering and operations to turn our technical capability into contracts we can deliver well. Key Responsibilities Win revenue: Own the full sales cycle, from targeted outreach and qualification through technical evaluation, proposals, negotiation and signed contracts, with clear personal responsibility for sales results. Build strategic utility accounts: Engage engineering, transmission planning, asset management, operations, procurement and executive sponsors, and understand how technical approval, budgets and purchasing decisions connect. Coordinate with marketing, proposal support and delivery teams, and develop productive channel and industry partnerships. Convert projects into scale: Structure paid pilots with clear success criteria and an agreed route to circuit-level deployments, multi-project programmes and framework agreements with meaningful purchase commitments. Make the commercial case: Build credible, customer-specific value propositions around capacity, asset performance, deployment time and lifecycle cost, backed by evidence and engineering input. Strengthen sales operations: Establish account plans, qualification standards, CRM discipline, stage definitions, deal reviews and reliable forecasts. Clearly distinguish signed commitments from conditional opportunities and recognised revenue. Build the function: Help recruit, coach and enable the North American sales team as it grows. Sell what we can deliver: Align customer commitments with technical readiness, field constraints and operational capacity. Protect margin and contract quality, and feed structured customer insight back into product development. Required Skills & Experience A proven record of selling technology, equipment or technical services to North American electric utilities, with direct ownership of closed business and revenue growth. Experience managing long, multi-stakeholder utility sales cycles, including technical validation, vendor qualification, procurement and contracting. Evidence of building or scaling a sales function, covering prospecting, pipeline development, forecasting, sales enablement or team development. The credibility to work with utility engineers and the commercial judgement to negotiate with procurement and senior decision-makers. You don’t need to be an engineer, but you must pick up complex technology quickly. Strong personal drive, resilience and follow-through. You’re comfortable prospecting, writing proposals and closing deals yourself. Collaborative, low-ego leadership: you challenge constructively, communicate clearly across functions and build trust without overpromising. Preferred Skills & Experience Overhead transmission or distribution experience, for example dynamic line rating (DLR), advanced conductors, reconductoring, grid-enhancing technologies, power-line hardware or robotic inspection and maintenance. Strong candidates from the wider utility ecosystem are equally welcome if they can show transferable relationships, technical selling ability and commercial results. Experience taking an emerging hardware, robotics or infrastructure technology from initial adoption to repeatable sales. We care more about what you’ve built and sold than a particular degree, title or employer. Why Join AssetCool? Shape a major market for technology that’s revolutionising the power grid. Real ownership and direct access to technical and commercial decision-makers. Build, not inherit: grow a team and a sales organisation as the business scales. Scope to progress into wider, global commercial leadership, based on results, leadership capability and business needs. Competitive salary and flexible working. Research shows that some candidates may hesitate to apply unless they meet every listed requirement. If this role excites you but your experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification, we still encourage you to apply. You might be exactly who we're looking for, either for this role or another opportunity within our team. We’re proud to be an equal opportunity employer and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. We’re committed to building an inclusive, supportive workplace where everyone can thrive. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, religion, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status or any other characteristic protected by applicable law. If you have a disability or any specific requirements and need adjustments at any stage of the recruitment process, just let us know and we’ll do our best to accommodate your needs.

Director – Data Center Development & Construction (Richmond)

Director – Data Center Development & Construction Richmond, VA | Owner/Developer | Major Capital Projects - Relocation package available Lead projects from land acquisition through construction and delivery I'm partnering with a rapidly expanding U.S. data center developer to appoint a Director of Development & Construction in Richmond, Virginia. This is a true owner/developer-side role, combining front-end real estate development with major construction delivery. You'll be involved from the earliest stages — identifying and evaluating land, supporting acquisition, zoning and entitlements, permitting and utility coordination — before taking projects through design, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover. Previous data center experience is valuable, but not essential. We're equally interested in senior leaders from mission-critical, advanced manufacturing, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, battery/EV and other technically complex, high-density MEP environments. What will you be responsible for? Lead projects across the full development and construction lifecycle Support land identification, due diligence and acquisition, assessing sites for development potential Drive zoning, entitlements, permitting and relationships with public agencies Coordinate utility requirements and infrastructure needed to make sites development-ready Manage environmental, geotechnical, wetlands and other due-diligence consultants Lead design development, preconstruction and procurement Develop and control major budgets, schedules and critical-path activities Manage GCs from RFP/bidding and contract negotiation through construction and closeout Oversee complex electrical, mechanical and utility infrastructure Manage contracts, RFIs, submittals, change orders, invoicing, risk and quality Maintain senior relationships with capital partners, consultants, contractors and other project stakeholders The formal remit covers entitlement and design, project budgets and schedules, consultant/contractor procurement and overall development delivery, including direct interaction with GCs throughout bidding, award, execution and closeout. What experience are we looking for? You'll ideally have 10 years delivering large, technically complex development and construction projects, with experience across both the front-end development process and physical construction delivery. Relevant backgrounds could include: Data Centers | Mission Critical | Advanced Manufacturing | Semiconductor | Pharmaceutical | Battery / EV | Large-Scale Industrial We're particularly interested in experience covering: Land/site identification, evaluation and acquisition Zoning, entitlements and permitting Utility coordination and infrastructure development Development feasibility and project planning Preconstruction and design management Major CAPEX, contracts, procurement and commercial management GC and MEP contractor leadership Construction through commissioning and turnover You should be comfortable operating at both levels — discussing development strategy, land, utilities and financial viability with senior stakeholders, while also being capable of challenging a GC on schedule, cost, constructability and project execution. Why consider it? This is an opportunity to move beyond purely managing construction and gain genuine ownership across how major projects are identified, developed, built and delivered. For candidates coming from complex manufacturing or mission-critical construction, it's also an opportunity to transfer highly relevant experience into the rapidly growing data center sector without needing an established data center background. The position is site-based in Richmond, Virginia, with some travel to company HQ and potentially future project locations. Interested? Apply directly or message me confidentially to discuss the projects, team and longer-term opportunity.
