Job Description Job Description Nursing degree, active registered nurse (RN) license and minimum 1 years RN experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced registered nurse specializing in stepdown care at a new, high-acuity progressive care unit opening early next year, transitioning to an intensive care unit by year-end. This contract role is based in Greensboro, NC, with a chance to work in a dynamic environment catering primarily to complex cardiac patients. The unit will initially offer 10-12 beds with patient ratios starting at 1:3-4, adjusting closer to 1:2-3 after the transition to ICU. Nurses will manage cases including congestive heart failure, cardiomyopathies, arrhythmias, post-surgical recoveries, and heart transplants. Experience in critical care settings, especially with cardiovascular patients such as those in CVICU, is highly valued. Qualifications and Experience: Minimum two years of ICU or PCU nursing experience (ICU experience required by late 2026) Current BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certifications Proficiency in general and ICU nursing skills Familiarity with Swanz and Impella devices, wound care, EKG interpretation, ventilator management, chest tubes, and drips Preferred experience with LVAD and post-cardiac transplant care; training available No ECMO required; IABP accepted after ICU transition Responsibilities: Provide high-quality nursing care to cardiac-focused patients Manage critical interventions, monitoring, and medications Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including intensivists, hospitalists, and respiratory therapists Participate in float rotations within related units as needed Scheduling and Work Environment: Shifts: 06:30-19:00 or 18:30-07:00, weekend rotation approximately every other weekend Self-scheduling model after staff priority selection 50% holiday coverage expectation On-site support includes CNAs, charge nurses, RTs, phlebotomy, PICC teams, and tele-monitoring Greensboro, NC, offers a vibrant community blending urban amenities with Southern charm.
