Details Float pool Med/Surg role within a 492-bed hospital that is a Level I Trauma Center, Level III NICU, and Primary Stroke Center Home unit assigned on the first day of orientation, with possible placement in Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, MedSurg/Oncology, Orthopedics, or MS/Ortho/Urology units Typical patient ratio of 1:4, ranging up to 1:6 depending on unit 12-hour day or night shifts (7a-7p or 7p-7a), 36 hours per week on a 4-week self-scheduling cycle using Smart Square Weekend rotation required, either every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month No on-call requirements Floating required to like units (MS to MS, MS to ICU tasking, MS to ER/holds, ICU to ICU, ICU to MS tasking, or ICU to ER/holds) EMR is Cerner, with Epic experience also considered Equipment includes Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors Telemetry monitored by dedicated tele techs, but RNs are required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours Requirements Active RN license (AL or compact) required Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required Minimum 18 months of experience in MedSurg and/or ICU required Cerner or Epic EMR experience required; Cerner specifically required if experience is strictly ICU-based Skills may include wound care, chest tube management, NGT, IV starts, trach care, PEG tube care, ostomy care, PCA pump management, CVL dressing changes, and foley catheter protocols depending on unit assignment Chemotherapy administration certification preferred for oncology-related assignments Telemetry experience preferred Additional Information Unit support includes CNAs (1:10-12 ratio) for vitals, ADLs, and glucose checks, along with charge nurses, HUC/receptionist support, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, hospitalist coverage, and telemetry techs New or returning travelers absent for 1 year receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours of unit orientation Holiday coverage includes one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy, though time off is not guaranteed prior to arrival Specific blackout dates apply for requested time off throughout the year, with limited approval available outside these periods Scrubs may be any color Free parking available in the designated parking deck (levels 2-4) First-time travelers are welcome to apply Previous staff members must wait 6 months from their last shift before returning as a traveler Candidates must reside outside a 60-mile radius of the facility to be eligible American Traveler Job ID P-748844.
