Job Summary and Qualifications As a Lactation Consultant RN - Acute Inpatient, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in line with the requirements of the department and the standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. Collaborating with medical providers and the care team, you will provide personalized, comprehensive, and compassionate care, following established nursing models such as "Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage." You will also act as an advocate for patients, families, and caregivers, embodying the organization's vision, mission, and values to ensure an outstanding patient experience and positive clinical outcomes. What you will do in your role: You will be responsible for conducting hospital rounds to evaluate mother and infant needs as they relate to breastfeeding and the initiation of lactogenesis You will be responsible for obtaining and maintaining current competency and/or certification for the practice of lactation consulting. You will educate mothers in the use of electric and manual breast pumps and provides information on storage and transfer of expressed breast milk. You will participate in the education of hospital staff in the Women's Services departments What qualifications you will need: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing is required. BSN preferred. Current Registered Nurse License in the State of Texas or Multi-State Compact License (Employees with RN Compact License are required to obtain Texas RN License within 90 days of hire date). American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course (BLS or BCLS) and Certification. Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification (NRP) or to complete within one year of date of hire. Two years of staff nurse experience in women's services. Breastfeeding education experience with minimum of two year's working with childbearing and breastfeeding families. Position Highlights Facilitate a person-centered team approach to skin and wound prevention and management, working alongside nursing center leadership, nursing staff, physicians, therapists, dietitians, and families. Coordinate and lead weekly wound rounds, ensuring comprehensive assessment, accurate documentation, and effective care planning. Collaborate on potential admissions with skin/wound needs, ensuring a smooth and well-prepared transition for new residents. Lead the team review of all new patient admissions and readmissions for skin integrity needs, identifying risk factors, existing impairments, and coordinating necessary interventions and supplies. Lead the team evaluation of all new skin/wound conditions within 48 hours of admission, providing expert inspection and ensuring accurate reporting and goal setting. Manage specialty support surfaces, ensuring appropriate utilization, collaborating on audits, and leading quality improvement initiatives related to surface management. Ensure staff competency, maintain accurate logs, and coordinate clinical reviews for extended negative pressure wound therapy use. Collaborate to ensure appropriate product utilization and support the nursing process for continence and incontinence management. Support the collection, comparison, and communication of clinical outcomes related to skin and wounds. Offer direction on new in-house wounds, survey queries, and drive root cause analysis and process improvement. Provide bedside training and coaching to all staff on skin and wound care best practices and documentation.
