Position Summary: The Refueling and Remote Handling Group is responsible for fuel and reactor module handling, including its remote disassembly, inspection, and assembly during reactor refueling. The group provides for the design of remotely operated or controlled automated, robotic, and tele-operated reactor servicing tools and inspection equipment for use in a variety of operating environments. The mission of the group is to provide efficient, safe, and reliable tools, equipment, and processes that ensure refueling outage performance objectives are achieved. Responsibilities: Provides and utilizes system engineering input in the development of reactor servicing tools, inspection equipment, and control systems. Prepares, checks, and reviews engineering reports, system descriptions and specifications, drawings, calculations, and other design documents with particular emphasis on reactor servicing tooling and inspection systems, machine, and component design. Works on complex tasks in multiple and diverse areas. Work collaboratively with the Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) Component design organization to ensure adequate features are provided to interface with client’s reactor servicing tools to ensure that functional and performance requirements are met. Works closely with Systems Engineering and the Operations group to develop work sequences and handling plans as part of an integrated tool design scheme. Leads the development and maintenance of engineering standards and criteria. Assists in the planning and organization of complex engineering work. Performs innovative and complex engineering assignments on a team dedicated to the development of an engineered product. Interprets scope and requirements of projects; develops alternative methods to achieve project goals. Supports and manages procurement of activities related to equipment design, fabrication, and testing activities. Acts as the subject matter expert (SME) both internal and external to the RRH group and greater Plant Engineering organization in terms of utilizing proven technical approaches and engineering standards to solve problems in technical areas of expertise. Mentors and trains other engineers in sound approaches and standards for solving problems in technical areas of expertise. Education / Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering is required. (Advanced degree is preferred.) A registered professional engineer license (P.E.) is strongly preferred. 8 years of experience in implementing engineering design processes to design mechanical handling equipment and systems. Must be proficient in planning, preparing, and checking mechanical design documents for mechanical equipment and systems. Prior experience operating in a nuclear operating environment is a plus. Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810. Must have in-depth understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theories. Strong technical writing skills as well as good communication, computer, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Exceptional organization and time management skills and ability to manage complex projects with multiple work phases is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintain proficiency in the diagnosis and repair of all equipment which includes high quality and low cost completed in a timely manner to meet fleet cost per mile goals. Maintain proficiency in rebuilding components on equipment. Effectively and efficiently performs preventative maintenance inspections. Ensure the timely and effective repair of any problems identified during preventive maintenance inspections. Ensure all company, EPA and Safety policies are complied with to meet local, state, and federal standards. Complete all repair orders in a timely manner, ensuring all labor and parts are charged to the appropriate unit. Return all unused parts to the parts room. Attends all company training classes, then retains and demonstrate what was instructed. Responsible for the cleanliness of the work area.
