Building Maintenance Mechanic

Haltom City's facilities maintenance staff is growing by one to keep up with the maintenance needs of current and new buildings opening soon. We are looking for a jack of all trades when it comes to taking care of facilities. Our facilities include a city hall scheduled to open in 2024, a new police station, a recreation center, library, public works facilities, fleet services, an animal shelter and three fire stations. In this position, you will work both in a group and independently responding to work orders such as to change out light bulbs and/or air filters, handle small electrical repairs, minor plumbing and HVAC, irrigation repair, digging and running small equipment. If the sewer line is stopped up, you may use a sewer snake or sewer jet the line to resolve the issue without having to call a plumber. Although much of this work is done at ground level, someone who is afraid of heights may have difficulty climbing on top of buildings to inspect roofs, replace filters, inspect AC units, repair minor roof leaks, evaluate roof drainage systems and/or to clean roofs. You may also be called upon to trim trees to keep branches and leaves from damaging city facilities. For jobs that cannot be performed in-house, you may need to dispatch the appropriate contractor to a jobsite to make repairs. In this situation, you may need to open buildings, show contractors around, answer questions and provide general assistance and information needed by the contractor to make a repair. While doing your daily job, you don't have to be a body builder but will need to be able to lift 75lbs. Some of the equipment we use for maintenance can be a little heavy.
