Business Development Associate (New York)

Business Development Associate The Lind Partners — New York, NY About us The Lind Partners manages institutional funds that are leaders in providing growth capital to small- and mid-cap companies publicly traded in the US, Canada, Australia and the UK. Lind’s funds make direct investments ranging from US$1 to US$30 million, invest in syndicated equity offerings and selectively buy on market. Having completed more than 100 direct investments totaling over US$1.5 Billion in transaction value, Lind’s funds have been flexible and supportive capital partners to investee companies since 2011. We are a small, highly experienced team and the person in this role will take on substantial responsibility and exposure early. The role We are seeking a capable and driven business development associate to help originate new investment opportunities for the fund at the smaller-cap end of our target market. Your aim is to seek promising investment opportunities for our fund to deploy capital, and to persuade potential investee companies that Lind’s capital is the right fit for their growth needs. The work is largely pipeline-driven: you will identify and research prospective investee companies, build a pipeline of opportunities, and advance it through disciplined outreach — largely by email — followed by attentive nurturing, follow-up, and calls. Attending occasional conferences and industry events will supplement this work. You will also work alongside our senior business development team in support of their efforts. The strongest candidate is persuasive with judgment. We are not looking for someone who simply pushes hard, but for someone who can assess a situation from several angles and understand a prospective investment from the company's perspective as readily as our own. In our market, the ability to see both sides of the table is what turns a first conversation into a lasting relationship. What you'll do Identify and research prospective portfolio companies at the smaller-cap end of our target universe, and build a pipeline of qualified leads Drive outreach to those leads, largely by email, and nurture relationships through consistent follow-up and calls Take meetings and calls, qualify opportunities, and advance them toward completion Attend occasional conferences and industry events Support the senior business development team on larger or more complex transactions Approach each opportunity with a clear understanding of the counterparty's position, not solely our own What we're looking for A bachelor's degree (required) Clear intelligence — someone who thinks rigorously, learns quickly, and can hold their own with sophisticated management teams A demonstrated interest in deal-making or entrepreneurship A genuine ability to establish rapport and build relationships, in writing and in person Commercial instinct: the capacity to see a transaction from both sides and discern what motivates the person across the table Drive, resourcefulness, and a self-directed approach to the work Strong written and verbal communication and a composed presence Willingness to travel occasionally for conferences and events 0-3 years of experience; a background in business development, finance, fundraising, or another client-facing field is an advantage but not a requirement Why join us A meaningful role at a respected firm, with work that is visible to the firm's leadership Direct mentorship from senior professionals and a genuine path toward senior business development or investment roles Ownership of real relationships and a clear connection between your effort and the firm's pipeline Exposure to public companies, capital raising, and international markets from the outset Compensation Base salary of $65,000–$100,000, commensurate with experience, plus a discretionary performance-based bonus tied to pipeline and deal activity. Benefits include employer-provided health insurance, along with coverage of travel and conference expenses.
