Compensation & Schedule 7 on / 7 off nocturnal schedule Shifts: 4:30pm - 4:30am or 6:00pm - 6:00am Competitive compensation based on experience: 0-2 years: $141,900 2.1-5 years: $148,500 5.1-10 years: $159,500 10 years: $167,200 Additional nocturnist differential available $5,000 sign-on bonus CME allowance 401(k) profit sharing retirement plan Health, dental, and vision insurance options Flexible spending accounts Job Summary As a Nocturnal Hospitalist Physician Assistant, you will provide overnight coverage and first-call response for hospitalized Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Cardiology, and Hematology-Oncology patients. You will perform admissions, assess acute patient needs, and collaborate closely with physicians and inpatient teams to ensure high-quality patient care throughout the night shift. This position offers a high level of autonomy while maintaining strong physician support and a collaborative team environment. Two APPs are scheduled on every night shift, and a backup physician is always available for escalation and consultation. Key Responsibilities Provide overnight first-call coverage for hospitalized patients within: Internal Medicine Family Medicine Cardiology Hematology-Oncology Perform hospital admissions Respond to acute patient needs and changes in condition Take first calls from answering services regarding hospitalized patients Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams Exercise strong independent clinical judgment overnight Escalate patient concerns appropriately to backup physicians when necessary Qualifications Master’s degree required Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) required Prior Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, Hospitalist, or Med-Surg experience strongly preferred Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills Ability to work independently in a fast-paced hospital environment Excellent communication and collaboration skills Why Des Moines?
