The Microbiologist II is responsible for all duties related to performing environmental monitoring, personnel monitoring, microbial enumeration, microbial identification, and sampling of utilities. Demonstrates competency in the assessment, range or treatment, knowledge of growth and development and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated. Provide regular, timely, and appropriate communication with referring physicians, patients and their families. Participates in education of patients and their families. Evaluates and implements patient health care needs. Performs routine exams and obtains patient histories. Manages patient treatment program based on assessment of needs. Initiates treatment via prescriptions, diagnostic tests, exams and procedures. Reviews lab results and plans actions according to results. Performs routine health maintenance activities for new and established patients. Coordinates patient care and makes referrals to physicians, nurses, psychologists, nutritionists, et cetera, as needed. Collaborates and communicates with other professionals, nurses, physicians, and outside agencies regarding patient care. Coordinates patient care and family counseling with public and mental health agencies as appropriate. Teaches wellness habits and educates patients on prevention of potential health problems or method of dealing with present problems. Provides information and materials relating to patient health care needs. Maintains knowledge of current medical practices and skills. Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/ Entity as well as the proper release of information. Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements. PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Sitting for up to three (3) hours per day; three (3) hours a t a time. Standing for up to eight (8) hours per day; eight (8) hours at a time. Walking for up to six (6) hours per day; one (1) hour at a time. Frequent fingering, handling, grasping, twisting, and turning as it relates to therapeutic procedures. Consistently lift, carry, and push objects up to 10 pounds. Occasionally lift, carry, and push objects up to 75 pounds. Rarely lifting with assistance, up to 100 pounds. Rarely pushing and pulling patients weighing up to 300 pounds in a wheel chair or stretcher. Occasionally stooping and bending. Must be able to perceive attributes of an object through touch. Seeing as it relates to normal near, far, color, and peripheral vision. Hearing as it relates to normal conversation and high and low frequencies. EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited medical school and completion of residency and/or fellowship in area of specialty. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Current or recent experience in area of specialty. LICENSE AND CERTIFICATIONS: MD or DO - licensed by the state licensure board within the State of practice. Board Certified/Eligible in the area of specialty by the appropriate medical board.
