Job Description: This role has been allocated for a certified Advanced Practice Provider with either a PA or NP license. Advanced Practice Provider-Hospitalist (Starting Early 2027) Position Title: Hospitalist Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Location: McKay Dee Hospital and Layton Hospital Department: MKD Hospitalists Position Type: Full time Work Schedule: 7 ten-hour shifts per pay period Exact shifts will rotate between a mix of days and swings Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision 401K contribution & matching CME Stipend All credentialing, licensing, and medical group approval fees covered Paid professional memberships covered (up to 3) Job Description Summary We are seeking an experienced inpatient APP to join our MKD-Layton Hospitalist team in Layton and Ogden. Working with this team will also involve shifts at both McKay-Dee and Layton Hospital. Northern Utah is an exceptional place to live and work. The Hospitalist Advanced Practice Provider (APP) plays a critical role in the management of adult hospitalized patients, with a primary focus on those on general medicine floors. In this role you will work with a multidisciplinary team of doctors, case managers, nurses, dietitians, and pharmacists to provide optimal patient care and outcomes. Key Responsibilities: Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) are accountable for the provision of patient care at the top of licensure, within their scope of practice. Licensed, credentialed and privileged to perform such duties as: Conduct comprehensive assessments, including history and physical examinations. Develop, implement, and evaluate treatment plans in collaboration with attending physicians. Manage acute and chronic medical conditions, including initiating appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and pharmacists, to ensure coordinated patient care. Facilitate communication between patients, families, and healthcare teams, ensuring that patients and their families are informed and involved in care decisions and care transitions. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient encounters, treatment plans, and progress notes in the electronic health record (EHR) system. Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and best practice standards. Participate in ongoing professional development and continuing education to stay current with advancements in critical care and internal medicine. Engage in quality improvement initiatives within the hospitalist program and hospital. Participate in hospital committees, task forces, and meetings as required. Committed to the best in research and most advanced technology, the results are better clinical patient outcomes Qualifications Licensure/Certification: Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) in Utah Board certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP), Family Medicine Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Physician Assistant (PA-C) DEA Certificate II through V - DOJ Drug Enforcement Division ACLS and BLS certification for healthcare providers Experience: Minimum of 2 years of inpatient APP experience; hospitalist or critical care setting preferred. Due to the proficient clinical skills necessary for this role, APPs currently in their training programs and/or recently graduated APPs will not be considered at this time. Critical Care experience is strongly preferred; at a minimum, a willingness to participate in additional training to manage complex ICU patients will be important in this role. Skills and Abilities: Strong clinical decision-making and critical thinking skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Commitment to patient-centered care and continuous improvement. Physical Requirements: Ability to work in a hospital environment, which may involve exposure to infectious diseases and high-stress situations. Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies. Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc. May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time. Ability to work in a hospital environment, which may involve exposure to infectious diseases and high-stress situations.
