Casual (As-Needed) position, Varying shifts, including rotating weekends and holidays, to support department needs As a CT Technologist, you will perform imaging procedures at a technical level without constant supervision, using independent judgment, initiative, and expertise. In this role, you’ll apply ionizing radiation for diagnostic purposes while ensuring high-quality imaging and a safe, comfortable patient experience. Responsibilities Perform CT imaging procedures using established protocols, including contrast administration, with a high level of independence Operate complex imaging equipment to acquire, analyze, reconstruct, and document diagnostic images Adjust imaging techniques and protocols using clinical judgment to ensure optimal diagnostic results Administer oral, rectal, and IV contrast in accordance with physician orders and department guidelines while assessing patient risk factors Demonstrate proper venipuncture technique and safe use of power injectors per protocol Clearly explain procedures to patients, helping ease concerns and ensure cooperation Provide compassionate care by treating patients and colleagues with dignity, respect, and professionalism Accurately verify patient identity using two identifiers and follow universal protocol standards Review patient history and physician orders to ensure appropriate imaging and thorough documentation in the electronic record Ensure all exams are properly coded, tracked, and documented in RIS and archived for interpretation, with accurate charge entry Collaborate effectively with team members and other departments to support efficient patient care delivery Take the next step in your career with a team that values precision, compassion, and teamwork at UPMC Somerset. Desired start date: ASAP Practice setting: Clinic Provide safe therapeutic radiological physics to the Radiation Oncology Department Ensure equipment safety, quality patient care, and participate in teaching in accordance with regulatory agencies and medical community standards. Along with participating in treatment procedures, the Medical Physicist will participate in patient-specific QA, chart QA, linear accelerator QA, plan checks, and any additional support needed by our Radiation Oncologists, Dosimetrists and therapists. Team includes 2 Physicists, 2 Dosimetrists, 8 Radiation Therapists, 3 RNs, 2 Office Secretaries, 1 Billing and Coding Coordinator, 1 Social Worker, and 1 Office Manager. On average, approximately 35 patients are treated daily on 2 machines. The team works closely with our colleagues from our growing Medical Oncology group and interdisciplinary team. Working with the Chief of Physics, the successful candidate will have the skills in calibration and commissioning of linear accelerators and other radiation sources, perform quality assurance of equipment and treatment plans, and implementing new technologies as needed. A good work ethic and ability to work well in a team environment are highly valued. Candidates must be TRULY US Board Eligible (with plans to become Board Certified) or Board Certified by American Board of Radiology (ABR) or American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP). The American Board of Radiology (ABR) and the American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP) are both organizations that certify medical physicists who meet certain educational, training, and professional requirements. The ABR certifies medical physicists in diagnostic, nuclear, and therapeutic medical physics, while the ABMP certifies medical physicists in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) physics and medical health physics.
