Job Description Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Physician The Division of Hematology/Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) is seeking a new faculty member to join the BMT/cellular therapy program. Children's Mercy Kanas City has a full-service BMT program with a full complement of staffing including three other faculty physicians, six advanced practice providers, and in-house, overnight coverage by Heme-Onc trained physicians. The program is a FACT-accredited, and National Marrow Donor Program and Childrens Oncology Group designated transplant center. We perform 35-40 transplants annually for a variety of malignant and non-malignant diseases while utilizing all donor sources including haploidentical donors and banked cord blood. The program is focused on novel, less toxic transplant approaches to treat patients with non-malignant diseases, such as severe combined immunodeficiency, aplastic anemia, hemoglobinopathies and rare genetic disorders. The BMT program has conducted investigator-initiated CAR T-cell trials and participated in industry and cooperative group cell therapy trials. Our institution was one of the first to join the pivotal trial leading to FDA approval of Kymriah and has a faculty member on that study steering committee. The program has a budding laboratory footprint in the area of cellular therapy for cancer, as well. Research endeavors will receive support from the Childrens Mercy Research Institute (CMRI). Abundant laboratory space is available as well as a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) facility should it be needed for translation of research to a clinical trial. The CMRI is an integrated research environment designed to eliminate boundaries between science and medicine. The CMRI provides a collaborative environment for physicians, scientists, academic colleagues, philanthropic partners and the larger community. The Division of Hematology/Oncology/BMT sees more than 200 newly diagnosed children with cancer every year and is a consortium partner in the NCI-designated University of Kansas Cancer Center.
