Department/Division Overview The Department of Urology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is nationally recognized by U.S. News & World Report (24) for delivering the highest quality of care for the treatment of urologic conditions. Our mission is to alleviate patient suffering from urologic disorders through an integrative model of extraordinary clinical care, patient-centered discovery and educational innovation in service of the citizens of Ohio and beyond. Our vision is to transform the lives of our patients through this comprehensive approach to urologic practice. The Department of Urology has a rich history and timeline dating back to 1917. Under the leadership of Cheryl Lee, MD, as chair, the Department is composed of six specialty Divisions with 21 adult faculty members and 13 advanced practice providers. Collectively, the Department performs nearly 20,000 clinic and operative procedures, annually. Seven pediatric urologists at Nationwide Childrens Hospital have academic appointments in the Department. Clinical care, research, education, and community service are major priorities, and the Department is engaged in multicenter and multispecialty initiatives. The NCI-designated OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center (OSUCCC) and the James Cancer Hospital provide a collaborative research environment. The overarching research priorities of the OSUCCC James are immuno-oncology, cancer engineering, translational genomics, cancer prevention, and survivorship. It has over 360 researchers who represent 11 of the 15 colleges at Ohio State and at Nationwide Childrens Hospital. Each scientist is in one of five interactive research programs within the comprehensive cancer center These multidisciplinary teams translate groundbreaking discoveries into innovative patient care via hundreds of clinical trials on the latest therapies, some of which are available nowhere else. The OSUCCC James is also funded by the NCI to conduct phase 1, 2, and 3 clinical trials of novel cancer drugs provided by the NCI. In addition to two research fellowships, the Department sponsors clinical fellowship programs in Endourology (Endourological Society) and Urologic Oncology (Society of Urologic Oncology) while Nationwide Childrens Hospital sponsors a fellowship in pediatric urology (Society for Pediatric Urology). Duties and Responsibilities Research Leadership: Develop a translational research program within the Department of Urology. Recruit and retain established and emerging scientists. Foster an environment of scientific inquiry and innovation. Lead high-impact research projects and initiatives within the department. Promote interdisciplinary collaboration within and outside the institution to achieve the strategic research goals of the department. Funding and Grants: Identify and pursue funding opportunities from federal agencies, private foundations, and industry partners. Oversee the preparation and submission of single and multi-PI grant proposals. Manage research budgets and ensure proper allocation of resources. Mentorship: Teach and mentor students, trainees, and/or junior faculty while committing to recruit and develop women and underserved minorities. Requirements MD, DO, PhD, or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant field. Actively funded research program in basic or translational research Research designed with the ultimate goal of leading to clinical trials Proven track record of independent research and successful grant acquisition. Experience in a leadership role within an academic or research setting. Extensive publication record in peer-reviewed journals. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency in research methodologies and data analysis. Demonstrated ability to teach and mentor undergraduate, medical and postdoctoral students.
