Job Description Job Description The primary role of the Mechanic is to diagnose and repair fleet and equipment in order to optimize the needs of operations and minimize equipment down time. Essential Responsibilities Inspect, diagnose, adjust and repair power train, electrical, suspension, brake, hydraulic and air systems on vehicles and equipment. Assist in execution of preventative maintenance program by performing oil and fluid changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, CHP BIT inspections, etc. Perform on-road emergency service calls. Make recommendations for parts, equipment and fabrication orders. Utilizes vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes to initiate repairs. Utilize fleet management software to perform data entry, maintain accurate records and prepare various reports upon request, paying close attention to accuracy and detail. Utilize service manuals as well as online technical resources, service literature and diagnostic software. Observe and comply with hazardous waste and material handling and disposal procedures and regulations as set forth by local, state and federal environmental and health agencies. Observe and comply with all applicable safety regulations, rules, policies and procedures. Maintain clean, safe and organized work space. Maintain collaborative working relationship with drivers, operators and coworkers and communicate timeline for downed vehicles. Mentor and provide assistance to Mechanic Trainees. Join pipes or tubing to the equipment and to the fuel, water, or refrigerant source in order to form a complete circuit. Lay out and connect electrical wiring between the controls and equipment according to the wiring diagram, using an electrician’s hand tools. Obtain and maintain required certifications. Install, connect, and adjust thermostats, humidistats, and timers, using hand tools. Comply with all applicable standards, policies, and procedures, including safety procedures and the maintenance of a clean work area. Inspect and test systems to verify compliance with plans and specifications and to detect and locate malfunctions.
