Job Description Overview The only Level 1 Trauma Center in Central Illinois is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our dynamic Trauma and Emergency General Surgery Team. You will work alongside 10 experienced APPs and 10 trauma surgeons in a collaborative, high-acuity environment that is also home to a highly respected surgery residency program. This role offers extensive opportunities to develop advanced clinical skill, including procedural experience and comprehensive management of acutely ill trauma and surgical patients in the Trauma Bay, Surgical ICU, and general medicine floors. Autonomy in patient care and strong interdisciplinary collaboration are central to this role. APPs are actively involved in education, quality improvement, and research initiatives, contributingto the advancement of trauma care. Perform surgical consultations, assist with bedside procedures, and provide timely documentation and communication across disciplines. Serve as a liaison between patients, families, and the care team to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care. Adhere to best practices in surgical care and maintain compliance with institutional and regulatory standards. Demonstrate flexibility and efficiency in managing a high-acuity, high-volume patient population. Engage in educational opportunities, including teaching and mentoring when appropriate. Qualifications Education: Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or a Masters of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) Current and valid Physician Assistant License or Advanced Practice Nurse License in the State of Illinois or eligibility for licensing Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required. Federal DEA registration and State of Illinois Controlled Substance License required. Acute Care Certification is required for Nurse Practitioners. Experience performing bedside procedures such as suturing, drain placement, and wound management. Physicians will work with well-trained and collegial partners, in a dynamic practice environment supported by an established 24/7 Laborist Program, 3 MFM Nurse Navigators, a Genetic Counselor, an APRN, a Level 3 NICU team, and Pediatric Cardiologists that contract to read fetal echocardiograms in office 1-2 days a week. Our MFM services range from consultative to co-management with our amazing referral base. We work closely with over 30 Obstetricians in the system and multiple Obstetricians in the community to ensure comprehensive, coordinated care for our patients. Baptist Health MFM follows SMFM, ACOG, and AIUM guidelines, as well as keeps up-to-date on publications from Green journal, SMFM plenaries, and the latest clinical advancements in maternal fetal medicine. We have a supportive referral relationship with several Fetal Centers in surrounding states, as well as the Children's Hospital in town.
