Expert Advisory Board Member (New York)

Buxton Helmsley is an alternative asset manager headquartered in New York, ranked by Bloomberg in the top 15% of global activist investors (based on volume of investor engagement). Our primary public markets activism strategy involves identifying undervalued companies where operational, governance, or accounting issues have suppressed shareholder value—then working constructively (or, when necessary, assertively) to unlock that value. Our approach combines rigorous forensic analysis with deep capital markets expertise, and we have a track record of generating meaningful outcomes for our investors and the companies we engage. The Opportunity Buxton Helmsley is selectively expanding its Expert Advisory Board—a network of senior professionals whose deep domain expertise directly supports our activist campaigns and portfolio company engagements. As a member of the Expert Advisory Board, you will serve as a strategic resource to the firm across the full lifecycle of our engagements: helping us identify and evaluate new opportunities within your area of expertise, advising on operational, regulatory, or industry-specific considerations during active campaigns, and—where the fit is right—potentially serving on the boards of portfolio companies where your skillset is needed. This is not a passive advisory role. We are looking for people who have built real expertise over the course of serious careers and want to deploy that expertise in high-impact situations. If you are the kind of person who has spent decades mastering your craft and wants to put that knowledge to work in a meaningful way, we want to hear from you. What You Will Do Source & evaluate opportunities. Leverage your industry expertise and professional network to identify public companies where operational dysfunction, regulatory non-compliance, governance failures, or other issues have created an opportunity for activist engagement. Advise on active campaigns. Serve as a subject‑matter expert during live engagements, providing guidance on industry‑specific issues, regulatory considerations, operational improvement strategies, and other matters within your domain. Support board‑level engagement. Where appropriate, serve as a candidate for board appointment at portfolio companies where your expertise directly addresses identified needs—such as regulatory compliance oversight, operational restructuring, or industry‑specific strategic direction. Contribute to diligence. Assist with pre‑campaign due diligence by reviewing operational, regulatory, or industry‑specific aspects of potential targets. Expand the firm’s reach. Help build and strengthen relationships with industry professionals, institutional investors, and other stakeholders within your area of expertise. Areas of Expertise We Are Seeking We are interested in hearing from professionals with senior‑level experience in a range of industries and functional disciplines, including but not limited to: Pharmaceutical regulation and FDA compliance Pharmaceutical and biotech manufacturing operations Corporate turnaround and operational restructuring Energy and natural resources Technology and enterprise software Financial services and banking Commercial and residential real estate Cybersecurity and data privacy ESG, sustainability, and corporate responsibility Supply chain and logistics Healthcare delivery and health systems operations If your area of expertise is not listed above but you believe it would be relevant to our work, we still encourage you to apply. Who You Are You have 15 or more years of senior‑level professional experience within your area of expertise. You have held C‑suite, senior executive, or equivalent leadership positions—or have built deep functional expertise through advisory, regulatory, or technical roles at the highest levels of your field. Prior public company board service or significant corporate governance experience is strongly preferred. You have a strong professional network within your industry and a track record of building and maintaining high‑quality relationships. You have a working familiarity with public company dynamics, capital markets, SEC regulatory frameworks, or corporate governance principles. You are intellectually curious, direct, and comfortable engaging on complex issues in fast‑moving situations. An advanced degree, professional certification, or specialized credential in your area of expertise is preferred. Engagement Structure Expert Advisory Board members serve under a contractual engagement with the firm. The nature and scope of each engagement varies based on the advisor’s area of expertise and the firm’s active needs. Time commitment: Flexible and ad hoc, driven by active campaign needs and the advisor’s availability. There is no fixed weekly or monthly hour requirement. Compensation: Varies by scope and nature of engagement. Advisory Board members who are appointed to portfolio company boards receive director compensation directly from those companies. Additional compensation from the firm may include consulting fees and, in certain cases, equity participation in Buxton Helmsley, Inc. commensurate with the depth and impact of the engagement. Location: Fully remote. No relocation or regular in‑person attendance is required, though periodic travel for board meetings, investor events, or campaign‑related activity may apply. It is the policy of Buxton Helmsley, Inc. and its operating subsidiaries to ensure equal employment opportunity without discrimination or harassment on the basis of race, color, religion, age, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin citizenship, disability, marital and civil partnership/union status, pregnancy (including unlawful discrimination on the basis of a legally protected pregnancy/maternity leave), veteran status or any other characteristic protected by law. In addition, Buxton Helmsley, Inc. and its operating subsidiaries comply with applicable state and local laws prohibiting discrimination in employment in every jurisdiction in which it maintains facilities Interested in This Role?
