Details Work on a 40-bed cardiac surgery stepdown unit (CVPC) within a hospital setting Care for CV and vascular surgery patients including CABG, AVR, MVR, Bentall, and TAVR procedures Additional patient population includes thoracic lung surgery, esophagogastrectomy, AAA repair, fem-pop bypass, and carotid endarterectomy cases Also receives overflow medical cardiology patients with diagnoses such as heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, and heart block Patient ratio of 1:5 for RNs and 1:13 for PCTs Utilizes Baxter IV pumps, CADD epidural pumps, and various patient lifts Cerner EMR system used Shift runs from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM No on-call requirements Minimum weekend requirement of 6 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday, day or night) per 6-week schedule Flexibility to work holidays required May float to stepdown units (1:5 ratio), medical-surgical units (1:6-7 ratio), or the ER inpatient holding area (1:6 ratio) Requirements Active RN license (NC or Compact) currently in hand Current BLS and ACLS certifications required 2 years of recent nursing experience required Prior stepdown experience required Prior telemetry experience required Experience with CV and vascular surgery patient populations (open heart, TAVR, lobectomy, AAA repair, fem-pop bypass) within the past year preferred CVICU experience preferred Experience with epidural management, chest tube management, tube feedings, IV glucose management, and cardiac drip titration (phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, ketamine) US Social Security Number and date of birth required for consideration No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months Additional Information Team-oriented environment with a fast-paced unit culture Unit staffed with charge RNs, RNs, PCTs, and HUC support on both day and night shifts Scrub attire requirements include all navy, white tops with navy bottoms, or all white Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility, as local candidates are not accepted Best suited for candidates who are flexible, team players, and thrive in a fast-paced setting American Traveler Job ID P-733973.
