Metron Machining specializes in complex, high-precision CNC milling for aerospace, defense, space, and energy programs. The company handles work where quality, documentation, repeatability, and on-time delivery genuinely matter. This is not an operator-level position. Metron is looking for an experienced CNC milling machinist who can take ownership of complete setups, move a job efficiently through first-article approval, and leave behind a stable, documented process that other machinists can run successfully. Multiple schedules are available, including four-day workweeks and a weekend schedule that pays 40 hours for 36 hours worked. Second and weekend-shift machinists must be highly skilled, self-sufficient, and comfortable working with limited on-site support. Metron operates with clear standards and accountability. The goal is to prevent problems through disciplined setups, inspection, and documentation—not rely on last-minute firefighting. ⚙️ What you’ll be doing Set up and operate CNC milling machines for complex precision components Translate prints, programs, and setup information into reliable machine setups Review CAM output and identify potential issues before cutting parts Select and validate tooling, fixtures, workholding, offsets, and probing routines Adjust speeds, feeds, offsets, and cutting parameters as needed Produce and inspect first articles Diagnose chatter, dimensional drift, surface-finish problems, and tooling issues Maintain tight tolerances and verify parts using precision measuring equipment Improve setup documentation for repeat production Work with CAM programming, Quality, and Production to resolve problems Provide a clear handoff once a job is ready for production Escalate technical or quality concerns before they affect delivery ️ Machines, controls & software Metron specializes in advanced CNC milling, including multi-axis and 5-axis machining. You will work with: CNC vertical milling machines Multi-axis and 5-axis machining processes Mastercam-generated programs and toolpaths In-process probing CMM inspection and first-article documentation Calipers, micrometers, indicators, gauges, and other precision inspection tools ⭐ Shop highlights Four-day first- and second-shift schedules Three-day weekend schedule paid as 40 hours Complex multi-axis and 5-axis CNC milling Aerospace, defense, space, and energy work Prototype through production machining Tight-tolerance, mission-critical components Clean and organized shop environment Documented, process-driven manufacturing Opportunity to help improve setups and shop standards ITAR-registered manufacturing environment Materials you’ll work with Aluminum Stainless steel Titanium Inconel Nickel-based alloys Other aerospace and defense materials ✅ What we’re looking for Required Strong CNC milling setup and machining experience Ability to own a complete setup from initial preparation through first-article approval Strong blueprint-reading and dimensional-inspection skills Experience selecting tooling, setting offsets, and validating workholding Ability to troubleshoot chatter, tolerance drift, finish issues, and other machining problems Understanding of how speeds, feeds, tooling, fixtures, and setup decisions affect the finished part Ability to document setups clearly and consistently Reliable judgment and a willingness to stop and escalate when something is not right Ability to meet ITAR eligibility requirements Ability to successfully complete a background check For second or weekend shift Must be highly skilled and self-sufficient Must be comfortable working with limited on-site supervision or technical support Must be capable of resolving most normal setup and machining issues independently Preferred Multi-axis or 5-axis milling experience Experience reviewing or working with Mastercam-generated programs Aerospace, defense, or other tightly controlled manufacturing experience Experience with probing, first-article inspection, and documented setup processes Why you’ll like working here Your job is to establish a dependable machining process—not simply keep a spindle running. You will have meaningful ownership of setups, first articles, process stability, and production handoffs. Strong judgment and technical capability are valued, especially on the second and weekend shifts. Metron is a good fit for machinists who appreciate an organized shop, clear expectations, technical work, and accountability. It may not be the right environment for someone who prefers loose processes, undocumented setups, or constant supervision.
