Job Summary The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for obtaining, analyzing, testing, measuring and monitoring blood gas samples; administering, monitoring, recording results of or instructing in the use of medical gases, aerosols and bronchopulmonary hygiene techniques; performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation, mechanical ventilation and administering medications for the testing or treatment of cardiopulmonary impaired patients of all ages. Under the supervision of the Respiratory Manager and upon request of the physician, sets up and operates various types of equipment to be utilized in diagnosis and treatment of cardiopulmonary disease and/or illness according to established standards and practice. Essential Functions Moves throughout the facility as needed, appropriately assists in emergency drills and situations, and demonstrates the physical, clinical, and professional capacity to provide respiratory care as described in the tasks and duties of this position. Provides respiratory care under the direction and on the order of a physician or approved practitioner. Works cooperatively with unit staff, physicians and ancillary departments. Performs all tasks and duties of this position according to hospital and department policy and procedure. Demonstrates commitment to Pomerene Hospital’s Values. Actively supports and encourages Primary Support Person (PSP) / Family involvement in patient's care, with consent of patient.
