The San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center (SFVAMC) Anesthesiology Service requires an Anesthesiologist to Manage adult patients many with multiple co-existing disease, rendered unconscious or insensible to pain and emotional stress during surgical and certain other medical procedures; including preoperative, intraoperatlve and postoperative evaluation and treatment; the support of life functions and vital organs under the stress of anesthetic, surgical and other medical procedures; medical management and consultation in pain management and critical care medicine, direct resuscitation in the care of patients with cardiac or respiratory emergencies, including the need for artificial ventilation, pulmonary care, supervision of patients In post-anesthesia care units and critically Ill patients In special care units. The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Assessment of, consultation for, and preparation of patients for anesthesia including performance of history and physical examination Medical management of patients during the peri-operative period who are under physical and emotional stress Management of post anesthetic recovery including procedural pain Supervise and administer general anesthesia, regional, monitored anesthesia, pre and postoperative care, acute and chronic pain.
