Position Summary The Director of Engineering & Facilities leads Heath’s engineering and facilities functions across multiple locations. This role ensures reliable systems, regulatory compliance, and continuous process improvement in support of our manufacturing operations. They are accountable for developing a high-performing team, directing complex projects, and aligning engineering resources to meet production, innovation, and safety goals. With oversight of building systems, industrial equipment, and process automation, the Director partners cross-functionally with Production, EH&S, Design, Operations, Sales and IT to drive long-term infrastructure planning and ensure business continuity. Position Responsibilities Lead and develop the Engineering and Facilities teams by assigning work, monitoring performance, and supporting career growth. Utilize managers, supervisors and individual contributors to manage daily execution. Accountable for strategic direction for engineering and facilities functions aligning long-term infrastructure planning and team capacity with Heath’s business goals. Oversee operations including capital projects, budgeting, expense reporting, and resource allocation, to ensure effective and efficient use of resources. Drive process engineering improvements by optimizing workflows, equipment performance, and automation to increase efficiency, reliability, and safety in production. Ensure system reliability and advancement including electrical systems, control systems (PLC programming, fluid systems), and industrial automation projects. Lead equipment innovation, including the design, prototyping, and testing of new or modified equipment to enhance production capabilities and support innovation. Partner with EH&S and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with fire safety protocols, environmental regulations, and hazardous materials handling, while fostering a culture of safety and accountability. Lead emergency response planning for infrastructure issues, systems failures, and weather-related incidents ensuring operational readiness and business continuity. Own and optimize engineering tools and systems, including CMMS platforms and technical documentation to support proactive maintenance and process visibility. Oversees and directs security related infrastructure, handling alarm calls and various other related security issues. Qualifications Bachelor of Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Manufacturing or similar core engineering discipline 10 years leading and managing teams in an engineering/facilities environment Strong leadership and people management skills Technical engineering expertise including knowledge of industrial equipment, mechanical and electrical systems, and automation controls. Ability to assess issues, prioritize tasks, and make informed decisions. Ability to troubleshoot technical failures and manage urgent facility issues. Experience managing budgets, expenses, capital projects, timelines, and engineering resources. Familiarity with OSHA, fire safety, environmental regulations, and hazardous material handling. Work Environment, Hours & Compensation This is a full-time, exempt position based out of our Sausalito location, with regular onsite work required in both Sausalito and San Francisco. The role is typically expected to be onsite in San Francisco two days per week, with flexibility to adjust based on business needs. Our team educates a diverse community through a joyful, rigorous curriculum and within a structured, intentional culture, building a foundation of knowledge and habits for high school, college, and life. Our teachers: Internalize and execute common curricula, including unit plans, lesson plans, and materials. Build achievement-oriented cultures during key moments like morning motivation, lunch, recess, and closing circle. Implement school-wide systems for scholar culture. Communicate regularly with families and attend quarterly events in the evenings, such as Report Card Conferences, Cultural Heritage Nights, etc. Engage in ongoing professional development, including once weekly until 4:30pm. For teachers, base salaries range from $55,670 - $93,417. Teachers can select from three generous medical plans and are eligible for full state retirement benefits. This position will follow a 10-month schedule. We also offer yearly stipends for teacher-leader roles, extracurricular clubs, coaching and additional roles.
