Job Description Job Description Hospice Aide Company: Enlight Hospice of VA Location: Richmond, Virginia, and surrounding service areas Position Type: PRN/Part-Time Reports To: RN Case Manager Position Summary Enlight Hospice of VA is seeking a compassionate, dependable Hospice Bath Aide to provide personal care and comfort to hospice patients in their homes and other care settings. Working under the direction of a registered nurse, the Hospice Bath Aide supports each patient’s dignity, safety, comfort, and quality of life. Essential Responsibilities Provide bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, feeding, oral care, skin care, and other personal-care services according to the Hospice Aide Plan of Care. Assist with ambulation, transfers, positioning, and range-of-motion activities as directed. Take and record vital signs when included in the Plan of Care. Observe patients for changes in condition, skin concerns, safety risks, or unmet needs and promptly report them to the Case Manager. Safely use wheelchairs, walkers, Hoyer lifts, and other durable medical equipment. Provide catheter, ostomy, and other permitted supportive care after competency has been verified. Assist with light housekeeping, linen changes, and patient laundry when included in the Plan of Care. Document all services accurately, completely, and on time. Follow infection-control, bloodborne-pathogen, HIPAA, confidentiality, and patient-safety requirements. Communicate professionally with patients, families, caregivers, facilities, and members of the hospice team. Participate in staff meetings, interdisciplinary group meetings, training, competency evaluations, and quality-improvement activities as required. Respect each patient’s cultural, spiritual, and personal values while promoting comfort, dignity, and independence. Minimum Qualifications At least 18 years of age. Completion of the required training and instructional hours for a hospice or home health aide. At least one year of experience as a nurse aide, hospice aide, or home health aide; hospice experience is preferred. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to accurately follow and document a patient-specific Plan of Care. Professional, dependable, compassionate, and respectful demeanor. Ability to work independently while maintaining effective communication with the supervising nurse and interdisciplinary team. Ability to complete all required orientation, training, and competency evaluations. Valid driver’s license. Reliable, insured automobile in good working condition. Successful completion of required background screening, TB testing, and hands-on CPR certification. Physical Requirements The employee must be able to enter patient homes that may not be wheelchair accessible. The position requires adequate hearing, vision, and physical dexterity to provide safe patient care. Duties may include prolonged standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping, reaching, transferring patients, repositioning patients, and performing minimal-to-maximum lifting with appropriate assistance or equipment. This position involves a high risk of occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Desired Skills Compassionate approach to patients and families experiencing serious illness, death, grief, and loss. Knowledge of hospice philosophy and comfort-focused care. Strong observation and reporting skills. Experience with dementia and end-of-life care. Familiarity with infection control and safe patient-handling practices.
