Welding Fabricator Lead

Job Description Job Description URGENT HIRE · WESTERN COLORADO Lead the welding bench on a fast-scaling industrial fabrication platform. THE ROLE Lead our welding bench across architectural, structural, and production work — running priority welds, mentoring junior welders, and owning weld quality from fit-up to final inspection. Foreman track. We promote internally first. ABOUT MOUNTAIN OFF-ROAD / DSM Mountain Off-Road / DSM is a precision steel fabrication and CNC machining platform in Delta, Colorado. Our work spans: • Architectural cladding for national transit programs • AWS D1.1 structural steel for utility-scale infrastructure • Stainless production cells for OEM clients • Aftermarket consumer products We're scaling. In the last twelve months we've signed multi-year programs with national clients, launched a dedicated stainless production cell, and stood up the first formal pod operating model in our shop's history. This isn't a maintenance shop. WHAT YOU'LL DO You're the bench captain on the floor — half hands-on welder, half mentor and quality owner: • Run priority AWS D1.1 structural and/or D1.2 aluminum welds on critical jobs • Lead daily welding execution across pods — architectural cladding, structural steel, production cells • Mentor and develop junior welders and fabricators — own bench depth and cross-training • Own first-piece inspection, in-process QC, and weld quality standards (WPS adherence, visual and dimensional) • Coordinate with fitters, brake op, and laser op to keep the welding bench fed • Manage consumables, gas, and tooling — keep the shop running clean • Champion safety and PPE compliance on the floor GROWTH PATH • First 90 days: Embed into the pod system. Run priority welds, learn the tooling library, begin mentoring junior welders. • 6 months: Full bench ownership. Set weld priorities daily, run quality checkpoints, documented cross-training plan in place. • 12 months: Welding Foreman. Own weld throughput, quality metrics, and bench depth. • Beyond: Welding Pod Lead or Production Floor Lead as the platform scales. REQUIRED • 10 years welding experience in a fabrication or production environment • AWS D1.1 (structural steel) or D1.2 (aluminum) certified • Read shop drawings, weld symbols, and fit-up callouts • Experience leading or mentoring a small team • Ability to lift 50 lbs, stand for full shift, work safely around moving steel PREFERRED • CWI (AWS Certified Welding Inspector) credential • Both D1.1 and D1.2 certified • TIG capability for stainless and precision work • RT/PT NDE coordination experience • Prior foreman, lead, or working-foreman experience • Stainless or resistance welding production environment exposure WHAT WE OFFER • $28 – $36/hr based on experience, with reviews tied to clear performance milestones • Performance bonuses • Paid time off and parental leave • Tools, PPE, and welding gear provided — bring you, not your kit • Modern, well-equipped shop with a professional production management layer • A real path — we promote internally first WHY DELTA, COLORADO Delta sits in the Uncompahgre Valley — within an hour of Telluride, Crested Butte, the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, and the Grand Mesa. Lower cost of living than the Front Range, no traffic, four real seasons. Some of the best mountain biking, skiing, hunting, and fly fishing in Colorado — minus the Front Range commute. HOW TO APPLY Send your resume to [email protected] with a short note about the most challenging weld you've owned end-to-end. We respond to qualified applicants within 48 hours.
