Environmental Specialist

SUMMARY Mortenson is currently seeking an Environmental Specialist with the ability to interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. The Environmental Specialist will support Mortenson’s environmental management efforts for our Seattle and Portland commercial construction projects with potential to support additional commercial groups beyond the Pacific Northwest. This individual will be providing review of environmental documentation and advising on environmental matters in a manner consistent with company policies and procedures. This individual can be based out of either our Portland, OR or Seattle, WA office. RESPONSIBILITIES Implement Mortenson’s environmental program for simple to moderately complex project sites and promulgate environmental compliance of construction activities. Essential requirements: Develop site specific environmental plans and activities Review environmental submittals and attend preconstruction and preparatory meetings Implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with environmental regulations Develop and lead environmental orientation and training programs Lead onsite best management practices for environmental management Monitor implementation of environmental mitigation measures and conduct work site environmental inspections Collaborate with customers on regulatory (Federal, State, Provincial and local) reporting and documentation requirements Maintain operational knowledge of environmental issues in construction, and other applicable standards, regulations, laws, and procedures Interface with customer’s environmental personnel, environmental consultants, regulatory representatives, etc. Assist in the development company-wide Environmental Management supportive programs QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree or higher in Geology, Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Biology, or related field Minimum of four years related experience Significant experience with two or more of the following areas: contaminated soils/groundwater, hazardous building materials, erosion prevention and sediment control, and spill prevention and response.
