Clinical Exercise Physiologist

Job Summary Supervises the exercise and pharmacologic stress testing in the exercise labs at primary location and outreaches, including assessing the cardiovascular and metabolic effects of exercise on healthy, cardiac, or high-risk outpatients and inpatients, as well as, the determination of appropriate test and test termination. Implements and supervises the physical exercise program of patients in the outpatient cardiac rehabilitation program at assigned location. Job Duties Schedules patients for entry into cardiac rehabilitation program. Assists with the orientation, development of individualized goals and plan of care of new patients. This includes the calculation of exercise prescription and home exercise programs based on stress test results to provide medically stable activities to each individual patient. Supervises patients during outpatient exercise sessions, monitoring patients for inappropriate responses to exercises. Provides individualized and group patient education in areas of expertise. Performs warm-up, cool down exercises with patients. Determines patient suitability for testing based on medical history, chart review, and resting EKG. Contacts assigned cardiologist or patient’s referring provider regarding more suitable tests. Explains test procedures to patients and answers any questions. Monitors patient condition during testing. Supervises all exercise, pharmacologic, and metabolic stress tests including technical staff, exercise lab trainees, and students during testing.
