Basic technical skills such as suturing, splinting and injections Chronic Disease Management: Monitor and manage chronic diseases prevalent among incarcerated individuals, such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, HIV/AIDS, and Hepatitis C. Ensure proper medication management, including prescribing, adjusting dosages, and monitoring treatment effectiveness. Educate patients on disease management strategies, lifestyle modifications, and medication adherence. Collaborate with specialty care providers for consultations and referrals, when necessary. Emergency Medical Services: Respond to medical emergencies within the correctional facility, providing immediate assessment, stabilization, and necessary interventions. Coordinate with emergency medical services or arrange for transfers to external medical facilities, when required. Participate in emergency preparedness planning and training exercises to ensure efficient emergency response within the correctional setting. Collaboration and Coordination: Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists, dentists, social workers, and other correctional staff, to ensure coordinated and integrated healthcare delivery. Communicate effectively with healthcare team members, providing necessary information, consultations, and referrals. Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance the overall healthcare delivery system. Documentation and Compliance: Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including patient histories, diagnoses, treatments, and medications administered. Adhere to patient confidentiality regulations and ensure the security and privacy of medical records. Comply with all relevant laws, regulations, and policies governing correctional healthcare and professional ethical standards. Professional Development: Stay updated with the latest advancements in primary care, correctional medicine, and relevant healthcare regulations. QUALIFICATIONS: Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Current and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the state/jurisdiction where the correctional facility is located.
