Job Description Job Description SUMMARY: The Furnace Operator is responsible for operating belt ovens and periodic furnaces to support the firing and processing of ceramic and microelectronic components. JOB SUMMARY Setup and operate extrusion press and cutting equipment for the purpose of extruding outlets in various components and products. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Layout holes in accordance with drawings, standards, and specifications. • Utilize cutting equipment to place the proper size hole in the component prior to extruding. • Grind holes to proper surface finish prior to extruding. • Heat component to proper temperature for extruding. • Plan and prepare the punches, dies, and mandrels for extrusion. • Setup, align component, and operate extrusion press with the proper punch, die, and mandrel. • Report abnormal conditions of equipment to Foreman. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES • Work in a safe and secure manner and comply with the safety rules and procedures. • Perform minor welding of stops, fixtures, dies, punches, and other miscellaneous items. • Perform small repairs and preventative maintenance on the extrusion equipment. • Operate jib cranes, forklifts, and other mobile equipment (except heavy cranes) for the moving of material, components, and equipment from location to location within the plant. Occasionally operate overhead cranes and towmotors in support of small moves to continue production within the department. • Perform general laborer duties as required (i.e. grinding, loading and unloading of trucks and railcars, bricking furnace). • Keep working area clean and perform housekeeping duties around the plant as required (i.e. pickup tools, roll-up hoses and cables, sweep). QUALIFICATIONS • Capable of performing basic math computations involving decimals and fractions. • Capable of reading and understanding Engineering drawings and documents. • Working knowledge of different types of cutting equipment. • Capable of lifting 50 lbs. up to waist. • Requires 24 months minimum of job-related work experience. WORKING ENVIRONMENT • Exposure to extreme heat for intervals but not for extended periods. • Exposure to dirt, grease, and fumes. • Moderate visual and mental attention required. • Exposure to normal shop noises of grinding, chipping, high pressure gas burners, and repair operations. • Moderate physical exertion required when handling components and tooling.
