As a Respiratory Therapist you will: Under administrative direction, provides direct and indirect care to patients, to include diagnostic testing, treatment with pharmacologic agents, administration of oxygen and other gas mixtures, and various therapeutic respiratory modalities for improvement of disease processes involving the lungs and the cardiovascular system. Care is delivered in a scientific, contemporary manner consistent with the disease state, cognitive abilities and age of the patient. Performs job tasks in the ambulatory care as well as the inpatient acute care setting. Accurately and complete performs all prescribed therapeutic procedures and bedside spirometry. Current NBRC registration as a Registered Respiratory Therapist and current license by the State of Maryland as a Respiratory Care Practitioner. Certification in BCLS required. ACLS is required within 12 months of hire. Certification in NRP preferred at UM UCMC and UM HMH. Competency in intubation is required at UM HMH and must be acquired within 3 months of hire. Job Requirements Performs speech therapy services to patients in accordance with generally accepted standards, Maryland Board of Speech: Board of Audiologists, Hearing Aid Dispensers, and Speech-Language Pathologists, code of ethics, and departmental policies and/or organizational procedures. Performs patient assessments and develops individualized treatment plan programs for clients/patients diagnosed as needing speech, language, or hearing interventions. Develops and maintains long- and short-term treatment objectives and re-evaluates and modifies treatment programs as necessary. Records patient evaluations, re-evaluations and care provided in the medical record, in accordance with departmental documentation standards. Informs patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members of evaluation results and plan for treatment and refers for further evaluation. Plans and provides therapy education and counseling to individuals. Provides mentorship and training to clinical team members and/or students as eligible based on departmental needs. Demonstrates interdisciplinary, safe, patient-centered care and delivers excellent customer service. Participates in performance improvement activities and suggests areas for improvement to colleagues in a tactful and considerate manner.
