SEO Strategist

Description The Home Depot's Marketing Technology organization is seeking a Product Manager with deep technical SEO expertise to support its enterprise SEO program. This is not a traditional product management role - think of it as an SEO Strategist who also carries product responsibilities. The primary mission is twofold: establish strong cross-functional relationships across The Home Depot's online and technology teams to identify SEO-impacting activities before they derail organic search performance, and partner with engineering teams to drive the SEO technical roadmap forward - including the development of automated tools that make SEO implementation scalable across millions of product pages. The hiring manager was direct: she can teach product management fundamentals to the right candidate, but she cannot teach technical SEO expertise or the relationship management skills required to operate at enterprise scale. Those must come in the door. Cross-Functional Discovery & Relationship Management: A significant portion of your time will be spent proactively engaging with technology and business teams across the enterprise to understand their upcoming roadmaps and identify activities that could materially impact organic search performance. Most of these teams are not thinking about SEO - your job is to get ahead of those changes, flag risks early, and develop mitigation strategies before a roadmap change derails the organic search presence. Building and maintaining these relationships is the most critical ongoing responsibility of this role. Engineering Partnership & SEO Roadmap Execution: You'll work closely with engineering partners to drive the SEO technical roadmap forward - writing user stories, organizing backlogs, running agile ceremonies, and coordinating the development of internal tooling that makes SEO implementation scalable across millions of product pages. The business SEO strategy and requirements are already defined - your job is to translate those requirements into executable engineering work and keep delivery moving. Discovery & Requirements Development: You'll conduct discovery work across technology and business teams - understanding feature requests, CMS change requirements, third-party platform capabilities and limitations, and what it takes to stand up proprietary tooling. You'll synthesize that discovery into product requirements documentation, user stories, and roadmap updates that engineering teams can act on. Analytics, Reporting & Stakeholder Communication: You'll pull together business presentations, update roadmaps, and communicate SEO program status and risks to stakeholders. You'll leverage tools like Google Search Console, BrightEdge, Tableau, and BigQuery to read reports, surface insights, and support data-driven decision making. Basic SQL proficiency is expected - you don't need to be a data engineer, but you need to be comfortable enough with the data to work through it independently. Testing Coordination: You'll coordinate end-user testing within product roadmaps - not owning the engineering-side testing process, but ensuring testing activities are accounted for in planning and that you can validate the end-user experience as features are delivered. Skills product manager, Product management, Search marketing, seo, Product roadmap, User stories Top Skills Details product manager Additional Skills & Qualifications Immediate Priorities - First 90 Days: Map the enterprise landscape - identify the key technology and business teams whose roadmaps have the highest potential to impact organic search performance and establish working relationships with those partners before SEO-impacting changes slip through undetected Get up to speed on the existing SEO technical roadmap and the backlog of engineering work already defined by the business SEO team - begin running ceremonies with engineering partners and driving execution against existing priorities Learn the tool stack (BrightEdge, Lumar, Profound, Google Search Console, BigQuery) and establish a baseline understanding of current organic search performance and the highest-priority SEO implementation gaps Ongoing Responsibilities: Proactively engage with online and technology teams across the enterprise to identify upcoming roadmap activities that could impact organic search - flagging risks early and developing mitigation strategies before changes go live Partner with engineering teams to drive the SEO technical roadmap - writing user stories, managing backlogs, running agile ceremonies, and coordinating delivery of automated SEO tooling Conduct discovery work with business and technology partners to understand requirements, platform capabilities and limitations, and opportunities for proprietary tooling development Write product requirements documentation and user stories that translate SEO business requirements into executable engineering work Leverage BrightEdge, Lumar, Profound, and Google Search Console for SEO performance monitoring and reporting Use BigQuery, Tableau, and basic SQL to support analytics and reporting needs Apply AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) and GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) knowledge to ensure the SEO strategy accounts for AI-driven search evolution including Gemini optimization Create business presentations, update roadmaps, and communicate program status and risks to stakeholders across the orga Experience Level Expert Level Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Atlanta, GA.
