Job Description Job Description The Tanker-Trailer Mechanic is responsible for performing testing, repairing and maintenance on trailers and tankers to ensure safe and productive operations. PRIMARY RESPOSIBILITIES Perform repairs on steering systems, hydraulic systems, brake systems, transmissions, electrical systems and engines Perform preventative maintenance (PM) and minor repairs on Kenworth and Freightliner trucks Diagnose mechanical problems Perform testing and preventative maintenance on trailers Perform tank testing (V - External, I - Internal, K - Leakage, P - Pressure, T - Thickness, L - Lining) Perform inspections to ensure DOT requirements are met and take corrective measures when required Enter work orders into the shop tracking system, TMT Read and interpret work orders, communicate with drivers on repairs and discuss preventive measures Perform other tasks as assigned, including but not limited to, delivering trucks to and from other branch locations and picking up parts PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration Noise level in the work environment can be loud Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing Able to lift and/or move items up to 50 lbs. Vision abilities: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus OTHER REQUIREMENTS Mechanical or trade school certificate preferred Tools based on our experience, will allow a window of time to acquire any hand tools you may need. Identify, diagnose, and repairs, complex malfunctions on fleet equipment. Uses specialized diagnostic and power tools to complete skilled maintenance tasks. Repairs damaged frames and repairs and replaces differentials, drive shafts, front end, and steering mechanisms. Repair, rebuild, or replace powertrain components, such as diesel or gas engines and transmissions. Repair and replace major components on heavy machinery Ensure timely turn around on specialized equipment, to maximize company utilization. Consistently demonstrate commitment and support for the Sterling vision, mission, policies, and procedures. Performs work in a safe manner in compliance with the job safety analysis (JSA), and other work instructions and policies as outlined by management for the use of hand and power tools, and saws. In accordance with policies and procedures, wear the designated personal protective equipment (PPE) required. Maintain a clean workspace that is clear of debris and clutter following the guidelines outlined in the 5S visual factory standard, end of shift cleaning protocols, and tool placement(s). Follow all operating, cleaning, and safety procedures in the operation of company equipment and machines. Performs inspection utilizing diagnostic systems, analyzes trouble areas, and makes repairs as required. Performs necessary mechanical tests, removes, disassembles, replaces, repairs, modifies, rebuilds, assembles, adjusts, and maintains batteries and all mechanical equipment or components on locomotives, performs road maintenance on equipment, lighting circuits, air compressors, and associated equipment. College/trade school training or mechanical maintenance and repair experience is required. Ability to climb and work at heights is required.
