This position is primarily responsible for recovering human eye tissue from post-mortem donors for transplant, research and educational purposes. Work is performed in a hospital morgue or funeral home, with potential exposure to communicable diseases or hazardous materials. Examples of responsibilities include: Coordinating tissue recoveries with Donor Referral Line staff regarding dispatch, logistics and transport of tissue Perform donor recoveries according to Standard Operating Procedures, being careful to maintain integrity of the body. This includes a thorough physical exam of anterior and posterior of donor, aseptic eye tissue procurement procedure, and phlebotomy Complete documentation of tissue recovery, blood draw, and other pertinent recovery details on appropriate paperwork Entering donor and recovery information into database and 'checking' tissue into lab Process blood samples for transport to appropriate serology testing lab as needed Perform and document lab maintenance, including supply inventory, instrument control and kit audit Other duties as assigned We are a 24/7 organization that deals with grief and the demands of the outside healthcare environment which can lead to variations in workloads/volume that can cause stress.
