The City of Visalia Public Works Department is recruiting for Equipment Mechanic/Senior Equipment Mechanic depending on qualifications (DOQ). THE DIVISION The City of Visalia's Fleet Maintenance Division is part of the Public Works Department which provides everything needed to keep all City of Visalia owned vehicles and equipment operating at peak performance. The Fleet Department has a full-service repair facility that provides preventive maintenance and repair services for the City of Visalia fleet vehicles and equipment. In addition, the Fleet Division has a fully stocked parts department and manages the City of Visalia s fueling contract and fueling sites. Examples of Duties: THE POSITION Depending on qualifications, this position is required to have equipment and mechanical maintenance skills and work under general supervision performing a group of related duties according to established procedures. The Senior Equipment Mechanic is the advanced journey level position in the Equipment Maintenance Worker series. This position is distinguished by the complexity of job assignments. Incumbents in this position are expected to have the ability to diagnosis and repair complex problems on a wide variety of vehicles and equipment. This position may be assigned to work in different areas of the fleet operation such as light or heavy shop, tire shop or lube bay. Qualifications / Requirements: IDEAL CANDIDATE The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, team player with the ability to effectively communicate in both written and oral form and follow written and oral direction. The ideal candidate will be well organized with advanced knowledge of vehicle equipment maintenance and repairs, have knowledge of both basic tools (Hand Tools) and specialized tools needed for the diagnosis and repair of vehicles and equipment. The ideal candidate will also be able to work with other staff members, be open to suggestions and work in a fast-paced environment. Candidates must possess and maintain their own set of tools and will receive an annual tool allowance. Senior Equipment Mechanic: Four (4) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of gas, diesel and compressed natural gas powered equipment. Specialized training in the maintenance and repair of motorcycles with emphasis on Public Safety equipment.
