The Periodontist dental officer position is located at the North Battlefield VA Outpatient Clinic within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), VA Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Hampton Veterans Affairs Medical Center (HVAMC), under the Dental Service Line. The Periodontist must document successful completion of a residency program in Periodontics. He/she must be licensed and may be privileged to perform any or all the following duties: Comprehensive dental examination, consultation, diagnosis, and treatment planning including the use of radiographs, photographs, diagnostic tests, impressions, jaw relation records and diagnostic casts. Preliminary diagnosis, initial treatment, or stabilization of oral manifestations of systemic disease. Preventive dentistry services Periodontic procedures: scaling and root planning, full mouth debridement, gingivectomy, gingivoplasty, gingival curettage, crown lengthening, localized delivery of chemotherapeutic agents, periodontal maintenance procedures. Advanced Periodontal procedures: bone grafting, soft tissue grafting, regenerative techniques, surgical placement, and maintenance of dental implants.
