PRIMARY FUNCTION: Plan machining operations and set up and operate a variety of machine tools and attachments to make, alter and repair parts of overall designs and tools and gauges to exacting tolerances and finishes requiring unusual machining operations, where information is not always complete. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT: Manual and CNC lathes, mills, duplicators, jig borers, jig mill, surface, cylindrical, internal and tool cutter grinders, drill presses, saws, tracer attachments, dividing heads, rotary tables, gear trains, jigs, fixtures, hand tools such as grinders, hammers, wrenches, files, stones, micrometer, verniers, protractor, dial indicators, scales, sine plates and bars, surface plates, height gauges, optical comparator, safety glasses. Perform the duties of a Grinder‑Tooling and in addition perform, the following: Receive work assignment from supervision. Read and follow safety regulations and procedures and MI package including drawings, change notices, sketches, operation sheets, specifications, work authorizations, and verbal data. Develop dimensions for parts where information supplies is incomplete. Plan the machining operations and sequences required to machine a variety of cutting tools, and component parts of overall designs. Make difficult calculations involving geometry and trigonometry and lay out reference lines on material. Set up, operate and adjust a variety of machine tools and attachments to make, alter, and repair parts of overall designs and single tools and gauges requiring considerable ingenuity and improvising to accomplish difficult; machining operations to exacting tolerances and finishes. May make special fixtures for holding, positioning and clamping material and tack weld items together to facilitate machining. Check work for conformance to specifications. Assist Tool, Die and Gauge Maker in assembling, fitting and aligning complete tools, jigs, and fixtures. Maintain tools, equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition. Make proper time charge entries and record data as required. Perform other work of equal or lower classification as required. This is a union position. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or equivalent GED. A minimum of 10 years experience in tool fabrication in a manufacturing environment. A minimum of 10 years with interpreting blueprints, sketches, manufacturing instructions and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing). A minimum of 10 years with CNC machine code, MDI and manual machining. A minimum of 10 years with measuring instruments such as indicators, calipers, micrometers, bore micrometers, height gages, thread gauges and other hand tools. US citizenship is required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of 12 years work experience with machining; Horizontal Mill, Vertical mill, Lathe. Job Expectations • All programs have E3 requirements, so an E3 engineer must be capable of writing, interpreting, allocating, tailoring and flowing down E3 requirements to all design levels. • E3 engineers interact across all phases of a program, so strong technical communication skills and a readiness to explain complex technical issues with brevity to an audience unfamiliar with the E3 topic are necessary. • E3 engineers need to present at design reviews to internal and external customers regarding E3 issues. • An E3 engineer must be capable of writing E3 design guidelines, developing models and performing analyses on components, subsystems and systems using EMI principles. • E3 engineers are responsible for designing ground systems, chassis and harness shielding, EMI filters, and selecting and laying out interface circuitry for achieving EMC. • E3 engineers are required to prepare and review E3 test procedures, E3 test reports, E3 technical analyses, E3 control plans, and participate in cross discipline design reviews for EMC. • To verify E3 requirements, E3 engineers need to design E3 test procedures and participate in E3 testing in accordance with governmental and non-governmental standards, for example MIL-STD 461, MIL-STD 464, DO-160. • Experienced E3 engineers at Northrop Grumman must help maintain and build on Aerospace System’s reputation for E3 expertise and quality by training and mentoring less experience E3 engineers, design engineers across Northrop Grumman Sectors, Enterprises, and/or across the Industry. • E3 engineers must contribute to the overall knowledge and expertise in E3 engineering capability by extending the knowledge, application, developing processes, procedures, documentation, and protocols for the practice of E3 engineering at Northrop Grumman across the Sectors, Enterprise, and/or across the Industry. Primary Level Salary Range: $95,300.00 - $142,900.00 Secondary Level Salary Range: $118,600.00 - $178,000.00 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
