Administered by the Cambridge Health Alliance, the CPHD uses a Social Determinants of Health framework to address factors like economic stability, education, and racism that affect community well-being. Its key areas of focus include communicable disease prevention, environmental health, and emergency preparedness. The department is also responsible for creating and enforcing public health regulations within Cambridge. The School Health Nursing program, a collaboration between the Cambridge Public Health Department (CPHD) and Cambridge Public Schools, supports students in grades K-12 by promoting health and academic success. Staffed by registered nurses, vision and hearing specialists, health assistants, and dental program staff, they provide first aid, medication administration, health counseling, and education, while also ensuring state mandates are met. The program develops care plans for students with chronic illnesses, connects families to healthcare resources, advises school staff, and verifies immunizations. Full-time coverage is provided in all public schools, with healthcare oversight and clinical guidance extended to three nonpublic schools, city-managed preschools, and camps. Job Description: The School Health Clinical Leader is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing and ensuring quality patient care within the school health system, aligning with Cambridge Health Alliance standards. This role collaborates closely with the Nurse Manager to foster skilled, evidence-based nursing care, manage unit organization, and support staff development. The Clinical Leader is accountable for daily clinical operations, providing functional direction to the healthcare team, and acting as an expert nursing resource to the interdisciplinary team. Key responsibilities include developing the daily staffing plan based on acuity, overseeing the clinical practice of both RNs and non-professional staff (including Medical Assistants), and acting as the first-line clinical resource for staff consultation and real-time feedback. This position also involves actively leading and participating in quality improvement initiatives, implementing new guidelines, and ensuring effective collaboration with Cambridge Public Health Department (CPHD) and Cambridge Public School District (CPSD) partners Qualifications/Requirements: Education: BSN Required Licensure: Current Massachusetts licensure as a Registered Nurse. Experience: Minimum of 5 years' clinical experience in a related field. Minimum of 2 years charge nurse experience preferred . Certifications: AHA BLS, plus a Specialty certification required or obtained within one year of hire.
