Work Shift Day (United States of America) Job Summary: Functions under the direction of the Operating Room Manager, Anesthesiologist, and all licensed team members. Provides age appropriate patient care, which addresses biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial and patient/family educational needs. Has expanded anesthesia-related experience in complex, multi-problem, traumatic, urgent, emergent, and lifesaving operative procedures. Has in depth knowledge regarding biomedical equipment. Must be flexible with schedule and understanding in the urgency of care with patients undergoing anesthesia. Schedule may be altered by manager when other staff members are on vacation and/or when the needs of the schedule dictate. Must be available to take call as required. Must be able to respond in the OR within 30 minutes of notification. Must demonstrate positive teamwork, behavior and communication. The Anesthesia technician will work collaboratively with the anesthesia provider and perioperative team to stock, collect, and assemble IV supplies and medications. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Assists the perioperative team in the operating room with surgical procedures, including but not limited to general, orthopedic, neurological, spine, plastic, ENT, vascular, thoracic, GYN, oral and trauma procedures. Administers direct and in-direct care for patients undergoing the above procedures with supervision from licensed personnel. * Set up anesthesia supplies in OR suites including pumps IV lines and IV fluids. * Set up and prepare introducers and all invasive lines. * Assist anesthesiologists/anesthesia providers in pre operative line placements ie: central lines, swan gantz catheters, arterial lines, etc. Troubleshoot and maintain all corresponding equipment. * Picks up patients for surgery and assists patient transport to and from holding areas to surgical suites and to recovery areas. * Assist with patient transfer to OR bed. Responsible for placement of EKG leads and any other monitoring devices as needed under the supervision and direction of physicians, and nursing. * Obtain blood products, pharmacy products or any other products as needed. * Perform phlebotomy as directed by anesthesia providers. * Obtain supplies/equipment needed by anesthesia and OR staff throughout procedures as needed. * Assist to mop, clean and turn over OR suites at end of case and ensure proper stock of anesthesia supplies for to follow case. * Assists RNs and surgical technicians with room set up, supply management and patient charges. * Assist the anesthesia team as directed with peripheral, spinal blocks or epidural blocks. Duties and responsibilities include; interfacing and supporting other team members in the Operating Room, PACU, ICU, GI Lab, Vascular Institute, L&D and other departments as needed with cross training in monitoring, stocking, setting up, testing and troubleshooting equipment and assists with nursing and anesthesiology duties. Maintains all equipment pertaining to anesthesia in the operating room and other locations where anesthesia services are provided. * Ability to understand, direct, teach and troubleshoot invasive/non-invasive monitoring equipment. Maintains skills and competency checks for identified equipment and quality control responsibilities. * Assures all equipment is in working order. Interfaces with biomedical engineering to address any issues. * Pick up ICU beds and prepare transport monitors / cables in a timely manner. * Clean echo probes, LMAs, laryngoscope blades and handles, bronchoscopes, glidescopes and any other instruments requested by team, according to manufacturers instructions for use. * Ensure supplies and equipment are available and in good working order for anesthetizing locations outside of the main operating room. Ensures that supplies are available in the operating room and other locations where anesthesia services are provided. * Maintains and restocks surgical scrub supplies at scrub sinks, at OR entrances, and dressing rooms with hats, masks and shoe covers. Checks and replaces sharps containers. * Manage and restock inventory of all specialty supplies and anesthesia carts. * Stock sheets, blankets etc. Maintain and stock appropriate levels of fluid in warmer/ refrigerator and linen and trash bags. Other duties as assigned. * Participates in staff development and professional and self-developmental activities * Will be required to teach and orient new staff. * Participates in performance improvement, quality measures, NPSGs, nursing shared governance and all other department projects and meetings. Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct. Required Minimum Education: High school diploma equivalent college Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s): All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated. Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor Cert Anesthesia Tech-Preferred Additional License(s) and Certification(s): Required Minimum Experience: At least one year previous anesthesia tech experience Required and Two years experience a anesthesia tech Preferred Required Minimum Skills: Must have excellent communication skills. This position will report directly to the Core Services Manager at our R&D Discovery Hub in Newark, DE . The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following: Provide R&D laboratory support for the development of improved next generation fluorochemical processes and products. Conduct a variety of tests to understand the flammability properties of neat refrigerants and blends, foam expansion agents, specialty fluids, etc. These tests encompass both standardized and novel tests under simulated process and application conditions. Interface with colleagues in TSS R&D and Technical Service organization to set the objectives and priorities for the various tests. To provide data to guide research programs, to support patent applications, as well as to address technical questions by our external customers. Plan and conduct experiments independently, collect necessary data, organize/record the data, share conclusions broadly and continue experiments as needed with minimal guidance from supervision. Ensure the various laboratory measurement systems are in good working condition and to make upgrades as needed. Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering - Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Materials Science or similar degree. Strong fundamental knowledge of thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer. Strong mechanical ability to setup, maintain, fix and troubleshoot lab equipment. Good interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to work well with all levels in the organization. Self-motivated, customer focused and ability to independently achieve results.
