Qualifications and requirements A Surgical Technician/Scrub Tech who excels in this role: Assists the surgical team during the surgical procedure(s). Understands the procedures being performed and can anticipate the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies during the procedure. Transports to the decontamination room upon completion of the surgical procedure. Prepares and maintains equipment and surgical instruments in the OR suite and ensures their proper set-up. Responsible for all instruments, maintaining them in good working order, and assuring the availability of needed instruments to perform all surgical cases. Maintains sterile field and counts all instruments, sponges, needles, etc. needed for each case. has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during operative procedures. Cleans, assembles, and prepares instruments, equipment, and supplies for sterilization when needed. Follows proper sterilization processes. Participates in testing and recording of all Biotesting for the sterilizers and autoclaves in the department as needed. Work Experience: At least 1 year of experience in a general OR environment required or graduation from a Surgical Technician/Scrub Tech program. BLS Certification required within 30 days of hire. If your RN nursing license has been inactive, retired or lapsed for five years or more and you have not been licensed in another state during the last five years, successful completion of a Board approved refresher course is required prior to reactivating or reinstating your license. In order to be considered for current licensure status, you must apply for reinstatement within one year of completing the refresher course. Experience : One year relevant experience, preferred.
