Job Description Psychiatrist – Mental Health (Region 5) Location Columbus, Ohio (local candidates preferred) Duration Minimum of 6 months from projected start date Schedule • Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM • No weekends or holidays (rare after-hours calls may occur) • 24–40 hours per week (typically closer to 40 hours) Job Summary The Psychiatrist provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment to patients across various age groups. This role includes medication management, psychotherapy, clinical oversight, and collaboration with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure high-quality mental health services. Key Job Duties (in Order of Importance) • Evaluate, examine, diagnose, and treat patients with mental health conditions. • Prescribe and manage psychiatric medications. • Provide in-depth psychotherapy and counseling (e.g., psychoanalysis, behavioral modification). • Monitor and coordinate the work of professional and paraprofessional medical, nursing, and direct care staff related to psychiatric care. • Review medical records for accuracy and completeness; recommend improvements in clinical operations and staffing. • Conduct and participate in lectures, trainings, and seminars for healthcare professionals and support staff. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities • Strong knowledge of medicine, psychiatry, psychology, sociology, anatomy, and physiology. • Skill in medication administration and psychiatric treatment planning. • Ability to analyze complex clinical data and draw valid medical conclusions. • Ability to interpret technical medical literature, journals, and manuals. • Strong judgment and decision-making skills when managing multiple variables. • Ability to handle sensitive interactions with patients under medical care. Minimum Qualifications • Valid certificate to practice medicine in the State of Ohio. • Successful completion of an accredited psychiatry residency program approved by: o The American Medical Association (AMA), or o The American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or o The American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry • Alternatively, recognition as a psychiatrist based on formal training and five (5) or more years of medical practice limited to psychiatry, in accordance with applicable regulations. • Doctoral degree required. • Experience treating both adult and pediatric populations. Licensure & Ongoing Requirements • Biannual license renewal with completion of 100 hours of continuing medical education (CME). • Active Ohio Medical License. • Active DEA registration. • National Provider Identifier (NPI). • PECOS enrollment (if applicable).
