Job Description Job Description HVAC Technician Government Facility Support - Vienna, VA Employment Type: Full-Time | Worksite: Federal Government Facility | Status: Non-exempt; subject to applicable contract wage determination Position Summary The HVAC Technician provides full-time operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial HVAC and mechanical systems at an IRS government facility in Vienna, VA. The position supports safe, reliable, and compliant facility operations in accordance with contract requirements, federal facility procedures, OSHA safety standards, EPA refrigerant rules, and applicable federal labor requirements. Key Duties: · Maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair commercial HVAC equipment, including air handlers, VAV boxes, pumps, motors, rooftop units, split systems, exhaust systems, controls, boilers, chillers, and related mechanical systems. · Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, respond to work orders and service calls, and document labor, materials, readings, deficiencies, and completed work in the approved system. · Use building automation or energy management systems to monitor alarms, adjust equipment, verify performance, and support occupant comfort. · Handle refrigerants only when properly certified and in accordance with EPA Section 608 requirements. · Follow all site safety rules, lockout/tagout procedures, PPE requirements, and federal facility access, badging, and security procedures. · Keep mechanical rooms, tools, equipment, and work areas clean, safe, and inspection-ready. Minimum Qualifications: · High school diploma, GED, trade school certificate, or equivalent experience. · At least 3 years of commercial, institutional, industrial, or government facility HVAC maintenance experience. · Working knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical troubleshooting, mechanical controls, refrigerant systems, hydronic systems, and preventive maintenance practices. · Ability to read equipment manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, blueprints, safety data sheets, and work orders. · Ability to pass required background, security, badging, and federal facility access requirements. · Legal authorization to work in the United States and ability to comply with federal contractor employment eligibility requirements. Certifications · Required for refrigerant work: EPA Section 608 Certification, Type II, Type III, or Universal, as applicable to equipment serviced. · Desired: HVAC trade school certificate, Virginia Journeyman or Master HVAC credential, OSHA 10 or OSHA 30, building automation training, NATE, HVAC Excellence, RSES, CPR, or First Aid certification. Physical Requirements · Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, work in mechanical rooms or rooftop areas, and lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation. · Ability to work in varying temperatures, noise levels, confined or restricted spaces when authorized, and around mechanical and electrical equipment while using required PPE.
